Some artists draw the same style eyes on all character, but I like to distinguish between different races to give them a bit more distinguished beyond just little details to really emphasize that you're looking at something different. Here is my eye chart according to different races.
Can I see yours if you have one?
I was just making one after seeing yours, well, more of an eye study of every OC I've done up until now.edit:I just realize how little amount of OCs I actually made for this comic
I like it! I like it!
Sounds... Fun? Yeah, fun. Alright, I'll make one!
Huh, I didn't think to make one. Actually a fun idea. Also forgot that I used different eye shapes to denote different personalities. Making a chart would hep me in the future, should I take time off and forget or make a new character.
Working on one now, I'll upload it soon!
It helps when remembering your own rules. We authors tend to make our work so big that even WE forget details.
It's a part of each character's design sheet to have their own unique eye shape. However, these are just general guides, the shape of their eyes will get morphed and messed with a lil bit for different expressions.
Just realized that from this massive list of character eyes, all of them have a shade of naturally brown eyes. Huh.
Here are my eye "archetypes" of my OCs (mostly the chickens):
Not that many varieties, but that hasn't been a limiter for me, cause I like to used body shape/extra features (crown, wattles, tails, colors, clothing, etc) to further distinguish my char designs. This was fun!
Holy crap, that's a lotta eyes!
Thankful that eye am simple...
I hold myself to a certain set of rules for my eyes, but I don't really have a chart for them.So my human characters can have either blue, green or brown eyes. However, I tend to stylize brown eyes as a more golden orange. The hues of all three eye colors can vary, depending on how 'defined' I want to have the character design to be. Kyara's mother for instant has a very icey blue color to her eyes.
Then I have a set of Alien designs. I have, to date, two alien species with each their own 'eye rules'. The green multi-armed alien race can have yellow, green or bright blue eyes. Their eye 'whites' are a dark green color. Then my blue alien race has 2 pairs of red eyes with white pupils and red eye whites.
For my comic, no, granted I don't think I need a chart give how few characters I have. All that matters is that the goddesses don't have scleras and everyone else pretty much does. Plus, I have all the eye shapes memorized.
Never thought about having one before. When I create my characters I do look at some eye charts sometimes for inspiration and play with shapes till I find the one I feel fits the character I am imagining.
