We'll make sure to link any works we make abt our asexual characters in this thread bc some of our favourite OCs are ace! :^)

Well, one current version was. They've backtracked pretty heavy on that since Zdarsky's run.

a·sex·u·al
adjective
1.
without sexual feelings or associations.
"asexual individuals may still experience attraction but this attraction doesn't need to be realized in any sexual manner"

Isn't that this definition? I don't understand the difference.

That's what asexual means, yes. But the thread is about aro-ace characters so characters that are both aromantic and asexual which is pretty long to type so most people in the community just refer to them as aroace. Basically, everyone's lazy and wants to shorten things ~

So.... there is no difference or what? Is Aromantic dealing with relationships and asexual is sex? I don't get it.

HBasically you can be Asexual and NOT want to have a romantic relationship with someone ie dating, handholding, cuddling (Sometimes I’m told light petting? Think it depends on the individual?)

We’re as you can be asexual and want all of those things.

I’m honestly not sure this will be what your looking for but one of my character is aroace! It won’t come up much in the story because of the time period they’re in - they don’t exactly have the term aroace to throw around so It’s hard for them to explain themselves to people. It only starts to come up when the character starts to get hit on by other character which won’t happen for a long while-

Spoilers!!

Summary

If your wondering which one it is it’s the lovable scaley boi Ralh.

They both deal with attraction. Asexual means no sexual attraction and aromantic means no romantic attraction.
A relationship doesn't necessarily need both or either of that. Like, you can be in a relationship even if you're aro, ace or both. That also heavily depends on the people involved and what they imagine a relationship to be.

Also, both aromanticism and asexuality are spectrums so depending on where the person is, there'll be differences.

There are some nice definitions and stuff on this site for aromanticism:

And if you want to know more about asexuality, I'd recommend having a look at this site:
https://www.asexuality.org/2

So someone who is aromantic could be a horn dog who wants to bone, but just isn't interested in have a relationship.

... maybe  So, funnily enough, we had another post on the subject a few days ago:

Basically, you can totally have a relationship as an aro person as well. It's just very likely not a traditional relationship. Same goes for ace people and, well, other people as well but it's fairly often referred to in the aspec/arospec community.

So a platonic relationship would be... an aro/ace relationship?

I feel like we're derailing the thread here but, yes, it could. Naturally, you could also have a platonic relationship with somebody without being aro and/or ace

aiy... yeah, I'm not getting any more informed on this I think just more confused. I'll just leave it as another colorful flag I don't understand. Hahaha.

as if we don't have to explain it now :sip:

there isnt really anything called an "aroace" relationship- ur just thinking abt friendship. the point is we dont feel the need for a different type of relationship lol
u can DM me with questions if ur confused abt what being aroace is, from an aroace

Lolz I suppose so, sorry I just come from the background of googling every single thing I don’t know the definition of and hanging out with people who are already aware of these terms so i guess I’m not used to “having to explain it” or “needing it explained to me.”

Altho every now and then I do have to make sure people are using the terminology correctly

aroace here, I have no interest in having sex with anyone (asexual) and I also don't want to have any romantic relationship (aromantic). Basically I'm single and a virgin forever.
