Horror is a very diverse genre, and I really dig a lot about it! I enjoy camp as much as I dig something more metaphorical. I think the cool thing about horror is that it's an expression of our subconscious, our anxieties on a personal level and a sociological level -- the best horror speaks to the state of the world, what it's experiencing, what it's afraid of. In terms of comics, atmosphere is king -- horror comics should ooze it, be immersive, help me experience the internal states of their characters. The story, the writing, that's a part of it. Being horror isn't an excuse for not having a great story.
Favorite Horror comics: this is where webcomics really outshine mainstream. Spiderforest has a GREAT selection of horror comics, from Lapse to Soul to Call to Daniel to Arbalest (and more), all very different sub-genres and effective. Here on Tapastic, I'm also really enjoying Numb and Lacrim, both more experimental and very interesting. The short horror comics that tend to get more attention here are neat, but pretty formulaic -- they haven't held my attention, but I tend to follow long-form stories over shorts.
Favorite horror movies: so many. The Exorcist, The Shining, Cabin in the Woods, Let the Right One In, Pan's Labyrinth -- I could go on forever. Every October, I binge 30-40 horror films. I'm a bit of a junkie like that.
Favorite horror tv: There's not as much great horror television. I enjoy The Walking Dead (most of the time), loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer and X-Files. In terms of newer stuff, I LOVED the first season of Outcast, based on the Kirkman graphic novel. It does for the "possession" horror sub-genre what TWD did for the zombie sub-genre, but (IMO) starts off on a much higher note than TWD did. The possession genre is probably the "scariest" for me, so having a great character-focused television show to watch is new -- and really cool. Also, The Preacher's first season this year was really enjoyable too! I suspect we'll be seeing a lot more high quality tv horror in the future -- hopefully, stuff better than Scream Queens/American Horror Story.
Also, I do have my own horror/dark fantasy: I, Necromancer.
