Do You Listen To BGM?

Hmm.. I'm actually curious as to why some of you guys would rather not listen to the music. Some of you just said no, but didn't go into why. Some of you even add music to your own stuff, but don't listen to others'?? Like, the idea of doing that kinda baffles me xD

Like, I have my own vague understanding of why a reader might not want to hear a song, I guess, but I could be wrong with what you guys experience when artists and writers put a song on for your reading. If any of y'all wanna elaborate, it'd be interesting to hear your reasoning!

Because when I DID try it out when I joined the site it was an awful or awkward experience.

• One comic was just one piece and music from shonen anime, and because each episodes was only 1 page long it usually only took a few seconds to read so you'd only hear a few seconds of the song before it switched and auto played another cause I switched pages. It was really distracting, like I was channel surfing.

• Another was just really shitty k-pop music that was not only distracting but didn't fit what was happening in the episode (think the song is a bopping party song with lyrics that said "get your crayon! YEAH get your CRAYON" but what was happening in the comic was two friends getting into a fight and permanently ending their friendship)

• Another was music from a game, and though this wasn't the fault of the comic hearing the music just made me think of the game it was from the entire time and I found it impossible to actually focus on the comic or read it.

• More often than not the music did not fit the scene and ruined my reading experience.

• Have a bird... if music plays he doesn't know or decides he doesn't like he screeches his flipping head off.

After I learned you could turn auto play off I was DONE with ever having to listen to music on this site again.

oof I can see why you'd give up on it! So, your experience with it sucked because the music didn't fit in terms of the mood or the length of the episode, and it proves distracting if it came from somewhere else rather than being made for the comic or if your bird doesn't like it. Hmm.. and if even if everything I just said wasn't an issue, it still comes down to the quality of the song in general and your own personal preferences as well. That's a lot of valid reasons to not give it a chance imo

I actually do! I like using the BGM feature actually. Sometimes I use it myself and try to find ones that benefit the chapter, whether it be actual instrumental tracks (like a tv show or movie's production music/score), or ambient sounds like the rain or the neighborhood. And with my cartoon works (including the novels), its very fitting to add some in at least a story or two.

I know its not EVERYONE'S ideal thing to hear when reading, but for some who just like a little fitting music to go along with their experience is quite nice every now and again. I just wish that there were more options to insert BGM like using songs from YouTube. For my works especially, SoundCloud doesn't always have the tracks I WANT to add, so I always have to go for a.... close-second version to say the least. Plus, there's always an option to turn it off or let it auto-play if you're just reading it silently and you AREN'T on mobile.

I'm not always on mobile, but its a nice surprise to hear a song that fits the mood of a story's certain chapter or comic page.
