Do You Listen To BGM?

Just what it says on the tin. When a webcomic has background music here on Tapas, do you listen to it?

And as a side note, how many of you guys use the background music feature?

I don't listen, but I did put BGM's in a few of my episodes.

But most of the time if I want to share a song that goes well with my piece of art, I just put a link in the description.

I don't often read comics on the site so, I tend to not know if there is any music attached to a comic or a novel. If this was a feature that was added to the app, I'd definitely sit down and give the music a listen as I read through something, just like on the Webtoons app. I'm all for it, especially since I'm composing music for a comic.

I think it adds an extra layer to the tone of a comic for me to enjoy. Like, let's be real, it's a little unnecessary for reading, but I find it gives me some insight on to the writer's mind of like.. what music they like, what tone they wanted to go for, how they compose a song if they did so.. I look at that stuff very fondly bc it's a reflection of how much they care about the project and how much they wanna put the reader in the world they created if they choose to add music

Though I totally understand why some people would be opposed to it lol it's a good thing that you can turn the auto-play feature off, if that's not your style of reading~

I always turn the music off.

This being said, I only came accross generic easy listening music, probably there only for extra ambiance (this should be conveyed by the comic itself!).

But I would be extremely interested if it was well-thought music composed specifically for the comic and actually adding depth to the experience the way a good movie soundtrack works.

I actually do listen to the BGM But often I can't because I'm on the go.

Definitely! It helps me concentrate. Plus, I usually have the music match the scene to get into it.

I listen to the music from other sources through most of time I use my computer, so I don't really listen to BGM from comics.

I usually listen to it, but often separately from reading the comic itself. I feel like it's hard to process reading the comic and listening to the music at the same time (at least if I want to appreciate either to the fullest extent). But I kinda enjoy seeing the choices the creator made in choosing (or even composing) the music and how it influences the mood.

I've used the feature once or twice, kind of on a whim. But usually no, I don't use it.

I put some jazz music in each of my uploads, since some of the episodes are titled after jazz songs. But personally I don’t usually listen to the BGM. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Sounds like majority of people don't listen to them but since you can turn autoplay off it's not too much of a fuss if it's on there. And I had no idea you couldn't hear the BGM on the app.

Simple reason for the question, other than curiosity, is that since I have a slightly Film Noir-y piece coming up, it felt like it should have a moody sax piece with it.

I think adding the right tune to a comic can incorporate a dimension that you can't just with the drawing and text. Sure, the comic itself can convey the message, but I feel that the right music can expand on that. My favorite comics that add music here on tapas are Leftovers from @dawgofdawgnes and a sci-fi comic called Home. On webtoons there are a bunch of comics that use really good soundtracks, sometimes even adding effects when you reach a certain panel. Some of the first ones that come to my mind are Room of Swords and Brother's Bond.
