Do you name your chapters or do you just name them by number?

I name my chapter depending on the theme of the story. Like for my current one I am naming them

Code 1, Code 2 etc

Cause it fits the theme of my book. One of the MC's is a police man, and the other is a camerman, but they both meet amidst a riot. And the first words that fall off my main characters lips is Code 1-37.

I like naming my chapters in general, I don't know, it's just fun.

Since mine is a "comic strip" and there is not always a continuity (there isn't a real single plot), I prefer to choose a title for each single episode. Some of them can be read whenever you want. However is always better to read from the first episode... because some elements will be revelad slowly.

However... I wanna thanks everyone who's subscribing to it. It means a lot to me. I'm glad you're appreciating this comics.

I did end up naming all of my episodes on Tapas. This does two things for me. One, it allows me to instantly recognize the content of each chapter when I want to look something up. Two, it's one more tool I can use to establish an expectation for the reader. If I title a chapter, "Pirate Queen Loses a Bet, Dates the King of Farts" the audience will hopefully clue in that this part isn't serious.

In the case of some projects, like Alien Fiction, the chapters are both named and numbered. The reason for this is that not all episodes are chapters of the story. Some episodes are side features like rules for a roleplaying game or text of a Creative Commons License. Numbering the story sections like "Chapter 3: The Axe" allows the reader to easily skip over parts that do not trigger and interest.

well i'm trying to change it up for my different comics

one comic has both numbers and a name

the other has just the numbers

maybe my next comic will have just names XD

I like naming chapters in a style that fits the genre I'm going for.
So in this comedy, I'm going for fun names, or something that just correlates to the chapter itself.. xD
With some stories, I just name them after the current arc and go by parts, though.

So far I really like the names "We have servants for that", "Ge-i?", "Did my ignorance break him?" And "A PLOTHOLE"

For those who name their chapter... don't you find it funny? It's a way to express own creativity and sometimes (I speak for comic strip) it can add some "comedy". Right?

I do name all my episodes as I also make episodes picture to the novel.
I think it give a lot to the readers.

I number each release as a page ex: Dragon Sparking Pg 34 (comes out tomorrooow ) but then I also title my Arcs. Which I guess would count as chapters. So far I've had:
Prologue
Coming Home
The Gauntlet
Ragnarok

The titles are usually a reference to a song.

I used to, but I gave up before I came to Tapas. Naming gets tedious at over 100 chapters, and if nothing else, I didn't want to type more than a chapter number into 500+ Tapas uploads

I do switch up the thumbnails by chapter, though, so hopefully that helps people trying to find particular parts of the book again? Here's hoping!

Always name. It's not even that it's particularly fun or helpful for readers as much as it's helpful for ME; before I named all my chapters I constantly had trouble remembering what event happened in Chapter 16 or when the important event of a story took place. But just by naming chapters, it becomes instantly much easier.

I tried updating a comic and naming all the chapters, but unless you're doing a cute slice of life comic that you can start anywhere, it's kinda un-needed and honestly a ton of work lmao
If it suits some people though, it definitely helps when you're trying to find an episode or a moment.
To each their own I guess?

Personally, it varies for every work I write. Sometimes it is more fitting to have only chapter numbers or names, other times both like in the work His Obsession that will start publishing on here this Friday.

I also keep in mind what is for the overall vibe of the story such as the upcoming work of mine called Golden Crown will have Roman numerals since it's taking place in the Arthurian legend, the writing and execution of it will reflect in the story chapters.

I give them titles in the comic, but they're numbered in the file structure. During Season One, they were just whatever titles I came up with, but Season Two--being named "The Dreaming Tree Saga"--has all the titles as song lyrics. About 95% of them are titles from Dave Matthews Band songs, given the season title and Cyrus's character, with most of those being lyrics from their song, The Dreaming Tree.

Although the episodes featuring Professor Elemental and Geoffrey do sometimes use titles from Professor Elemental songs--otherwise they're from DMB's songs Proudest Monkey and Monkey Man.

I like naming the chapters in my novel because it feels like the chapter title gives a sneak peak as to what might happen within the chapter itself. Picking the right titles really helps me to start to build the presences that I would like the chapter as a whole to present to the reader.

I number and name, if I only numbered them then I would probably have trouble finding or differentiating what happens in each of the chapters.

I name them, and since I always have an extra episode scheduled, I like making a tiny hint or joke in the title so up to date readers get an idea of what's next.

Now that I have a lot of chapters though, the names have all blended together, and when I get a notification such as : [a reader liked "Sticky Fingers and a Phonecall"] I'm like: I've never heard of this. Did I write that?
