As a reader, I can do both however, I do feel that, at least when it comes to novels on here, only a select number of people are really able to get me into their work. You know who these people are. They're the ones who know how to get you invested in the story. Get you invested in the characters and the dialogue. There are so many stories I've seen where the text is just...
"The boy ran down the hall. He was sick. He almost screamed."
Instead of...
"The boy rushed down the hall, his face plastered with perspiration. He gagged as the lunch he had an hour ago threatened to leave his mouth but, with effort, he managed to push both it and a scream, back down his throat."
As a creator, I definitely prefer writing novels. As a writer, it's easier for me to express the details of something without having to put it directly to visual media. This also means that I don't have to bother with unnecessary details that I might as an artist. For example, as a writer, I don't have to bother drawing a random background character or some scenery. My words can get that through alone and I can focus on what's important. It also allows my readers to imagine the world in their own terms while I lay down the groundwork for them.
