Do you prefer reading a comic or a novel?

I think that in a comic you see more of the actions and emotions of the characters, where in a novel you are transported more into their thoughts. So which one do you prefer, to see what is going on in the story as the creator wants to, or do you like to imagine it yourself as you read?
Or if there are creators out there that tried both, do you find it easier to write it down or to draw it?

I'm a lover of both! A lot of my inspiration for my comics actually come from both comic creators and writers. I love a good comic that has an amazing storyline and amazing art. But I also love a novel that knows how to keep my captivated and wanting to know more.

As someone who's tried to create both, comics are easier for me. I'm more visual based, and my art is more expressive than my writing. That's not to say my writing is lack-luster -- I just feel I bring more to my own creative table through my comic-making.

For me novels are easier. Lately I've thought of starting a comic but I am scared of not getting enough of the depth of characters' thoughts and feelings as you can do as detailed as in novels. If that makes any sense...

Oh no, I definitely know what you're saying.

It's definitely easier for me to write it all out when it comes to thoughts and feelings. But when it comes to emotions and actions, it feels lack luster (at least for my experiences writing).

Novels. Comics take care of my need to see grear visuals accompanying plot, but I enjoy reading and writing novels more.

Hnnng. Tough decision. I like both as I grew up with comics mostly. So if it comes to reading, I prefer comics and graphic novels, writing I'd say novels.

i think ultimately comics and novels are totally different media, even if comics borrows a lot of conventions from novels, and id happily read the same story done well in both comic and prose format - although i think that conversion is a bit one way. id be far more inclined to read the comic of a book than the book of a comic, because books are less accessible and therefor im more picky about the ones i read.

that said, if i had to pick between a brilliantly made comic and a brilliantly written book, on the same subject matter, id choose the comic. im just more excited about comics as a medium, theyre newer, so much more of their potential is still waiting to be discovered. i just geek out about them way more. although still, id really rather read both the book and the comic

On a digital screen I prefer reading webcomics.
The page is displayed bigger, it's crisper, I can see all the fine details the artist put into their work.

In real life, I prefer reading novels.
I like having a book in my lap and just reading it ya know? No eye strain, you go into a trance and hallucinate these images, it's neat.

As for creating, I definitely enjoy the writing side more, but I'm shit at descriptive writing. I also picture my stories in a very cinematic way, a view that can only be translated by drawing it directly. So those are the reasons why I do comics lol.

I do like novels but I have 0 time for reading so I do the practical thing and get some free public domain audio books.

I love books/novels and their powers to take me to the weirdest minds and ideas, but I literally have no time to give them =/

I think I am the only person who can't focus on audio books. I really have to see the writing to enjoy it somehow, ha ha. But it's a bummer you don't have time for them, books are a great escape from the real world, for me personally...

I'm not sure I have a preference really. I know time wise I have a lot more time for comics since you can read a chapter here and there pretty quickly, where as a book I have dedicate an actual chunk of time to read a chapter and that just doesn't happen, and if I want to read a full book, i have to to consistently dedicate chunks of time. So lately I haven't read as many novels.

I think as long as the story is really good and it's told well, it doesn't matter the format.

I really like to imagine the scenes/characters on my own so I'm probably more of a novel reader. That said, the right artist can bring such a strong voice to a comic that I would much prefer to read along with illustrations. Novellas from Kadokawa just bleed style and I adore the mini-illustrations that come with them!

As a creator, both drawing and writing are just... pock-marked moons of terror. It's fun to explore the process of both but oh my god, you can get lost in a surprise crater for months.

I think I prefer comics these days. I like their on-the-go nature and the fact that I can read so many at once and not lose my understanding. If I put a novel down for a few days, I've lost the scene and it takes real effort to get back into the moment. I don't have the time to sit for days and read anymore, or to play games for hours like I used to. I also love seeing all the possible art styles, writing styles, colour schemes, character designs and concepts that come from the comic side. It's a serious wonderland.

As a creator I like writing, but I'm better at drawing comics. That's all there is to it.

As a reader, I can do both however, I do feel that, at least when it comes to novels on here, only a select number of people are really able to get me into their work. You know who these people are. They're the ones who know how to get you invested in the story. Get you invested in the characters and the dialogue. There are so many stories I've seen where the text is just...

"The boy ran down the hall. He was sick. He almost screamed."

Instead of...

"The boy rushed down the hall, his face plastered with perspiration. He gagged as the lunch he had an hour ago threatened to leave his mouth but, with effort, he managed to push both it and a scream, back down his throat."

As a creator, I definitely prefer writing novels. As a writer, it's easier for me to express the details of something without having to put it directly to visual media. This also means that I don't have to bother with unnecessary details that I might as an artist. For example, as a writer, I don't have to bother drawing a random background character or some scenery. My words can get that through alone and I can focus on what's important.It also allows my readers to imagine the world in their own terms while I lay down the groundwork for them.

I prefer comics but I also read novels, just not so much. I prefer light novels because if they are too hard to understand I might end up sleeping (literally). I am the type of person that ends up sleeping while reading the news but spends all the day reading Harry Potter...

I probably prefer reading a comic because of the visual elements you get with it. Different perspectives, interesting designs,etc. etc. I need to work on reading more novels actually.

Novels. I am not a comic person. The only one I read is Existentialist Crisis. I loved her novel Beautiful Rebellious Brainiacs so decided to give it a try.
