A bit after immigrating, I made chocolate mousse with raw eggs to a new friend, she liked it so she asked the recipe.. and was horrified about the raw eggs! I really felt bad, because she was panicking, thinking she would get sick.
I had no idea some people did not eat raw egg. I know the issue with them (mostly Salmonella), but I was told as a kid that it was just an issue of choosing the right egg and cleaning the shell well.
Anyway, I don't feed people raw eggs anymore, because I never understood the reasons for this difference between both countries. Different level of Salmonella? Different tolerance for Salmonella? Different way to treat eggs? Different worries about different disease, with no actual epidemiological differences? No idea.
(And now, I see more people in my country not eating raw eggs, and agsin, no idea if real reasons, or new fears).
