Do you use periods in your comics?

I use them if I've got more than one sentence in a single speech bubble. But at the end of the words in the speech bubble I don't.

Honestly, I make all my grammar decisions based on the way I want the dialogue's pauses to be read… almost 100% of the time I use proper punctuation, but every so often I drop a period for effect.

Absolutely. But balloon speech doesn't have to strictly adhere to grammatical rules if a specific effect can be achieved by bending punctuation to your whims. I'm not against semi colons or incomplete sentences - even small cues like that can indicate aspects of character if you want to get obsessive about it (i.e. using more formal punctuation when a doctor is speaking etc...)

I use proper punctuation. To clarify though, a sentence and a speech balloon are not necessarily related. So, I've ended some balloons with a coma or ellipsis, signifying that the thought (ie a sentence) is continued in the following balloon, completing the thought with a period (or ?, or !, etc) eventually. I mention this because there are times when people associate each speech balloon with a complete thought and that's not always the case.

Generally yes, although my sentence structure can be literally all over the comic, so sometimes they're not where you're expect.

I know the Garfield comic doesn't use periods

Which I think gag comics can get away with it more.
However I use periods in my work.
