I don't explain everything. I just give enough info to keep up with the story and leave out enough to (hopefully) garner interest. Any info dump is mostly to establish the basic rules of the story going forward. After that, little reminders here and there. Less is more after all.
The most text I use is to emphasize a character's state of mind in word choice or, most importantly, to clearly define the rules of a given game the characters will play. Since I want the story to be a character drama, focus on well, the characters and how they are/will develop, special attention is there. The rest, it's all visual/subtext. Show don't tell, ya know? Although, there are times I don't really do either of that lmao.
