Hello !
Yay ! Storyboards !
I guess everyone can do how they want, and with what they are more comfortable to work with !
But I will try to give an answer :
Personally I would have made a quite similar format as yours, I feel more free about it than a classic storyboard (I do not even draw boxes
), but just for a first sketch in order to have the idea right. Nothing of your hard work is lost, don't worry !
Then, storyboarding is about camera (that's why storyboards are in regular rectangles, because the format of the camera still the same), composition, camera movements, what is going on in your scene, and sometimes the sound/dialogues/lights that are usefull to action and narration. So if your want to make an animation, I think you need these boxes.
And I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the way you are drawing it !
Storyboards can be really sketchy, and I think that your drawings are clean (not sketchy to me) and detailled waaaay enought for a storyboard, plus we can understand what are the actions and expressions, so don't worry about a stroyboard being sketchy.
In resume :
- I think that to begin with you can try the way you want in order to make your own experiments and learn from them, try to face the problems when they will come (well, if they come
)
- it's true that your format is pretty similar to a 'real' storyboard, but in my opinion it's not entirely one
-you can always use this as a strong base for a stroyboard format (adapt your vertical boxes with a camera movement for example)
-your camera point of views are varied, that's good
-and I am eager to see the animation if you are doing one !
Keep on the good work ! I hope this have been useful and that I do not sounded mean to you
Have a nice day/night,
Snowdrop
