Does this panel give you an impression that there's an earthquake/the ground is rumbling?

Thanks guys for your continued feedback! I've actually made a lot of edits now and finished the page, so I'm no longer in need of any!

So, in my comic, Fragments (https://tapas.io/series/Fragments1) there's an earthquake because off in the distance, an evil deity is beginning to destroy the world. Fun.

I don't really know how to depict that though. So, I had to experiment!
What do you think of this panel? Does it give the right sort of impression? The rest of my comic has smooth lineart and the backgrounds are a lot more clear.

Once I've finished the rest of the page, I'll add my dialogue and maybe a couple onomatopoeia words.

Not really, mainly because even though the lineart on the character is less clean, he still feels really static.

That looks good yeas but maybe you could try duplicating the characters silhouette and slightly sliding it off lineart or something that would indicate he's getting shaken as well a bit more ? I think however that the overall effect, although subtle, works.

While i do indeed associate the panel and expression of your character with a disaster or something bad, it doesn't feel like an earthquake.
It feels... too static? Perhaps if the character fell out of balance a bit it would feel more natural.

hmm it looks more like single direction movement to me, like the view from a car, not so much like shaking.

When you say 'fell out of balance' are you talking about changing the actual pose?

It looks more like wind because the lines are horizontal. Earthquake would use vertical lines.

Well yes, but just a little tweaking might also do the trick and save you some time. In that regard i agree with @Smalish about slightly sliding the silhouette off lineart.

When moderately strong earthquake happens, things, which are not strongly attached to the floor, fall around. Inside of cave, pieces of rocks would fall from the ceiling. Also there would be dust in the air and cracks everywhere in case of more strong earthquake.

When I tried to depict earthquake in my comics, I did it like this:

Not sure, if it's the best way to do it (LOL), but maybe you'll use something from it for your work, too.

That's completely alright! I think you'd need the context of the other panels to know that.
