Does your family know you create comics?

Yeah, my family knows, but I didn't tell my dad until I was already ready to post it. I wasn't so much worried of their approval for my making of comics, but I just didn't want them to read it and not like it. I guess it just took some confidence building to actually present it to them.

They know , and they don't aprove it , they say it's a waste of time and that i can't live with that , and i will never be famous or pro and i don't care because i have decided , I WANT TO BE A F*CKING MANGAKA!!!!

Yep! I went to college for Comics and Visual Storytelling, so it's not like there's any point in hiding it! XD

Also, I've been drawing and telling stories since I could hold a pencil, so they've known all along, and are very supportive. None of them are artists - though my mother likes to borrow my acrylics sometimes and doodle a bit - but they're all cheering me on and being encouraging about it. it's lovely to have that kind of support!

My parent's couldn't care less for what I'm creating.
Which is kind of sad, since both of them loves reading comics...

I even showed them what I'm doing but all I get is an "Eh" or "Can't you do something useful on your spare time instead?". So there's that.
But I still continue creating, I'm kind of rebellious like that xD

Yep, my family knows. They are the bulk of my Facebook followers. My dad even gave me a Paypal tip once lol. I have no idea if anyone actually reads it, but they are all supportive of me.

I agree with this. I'm just 19 right now, so I do still often think about how they'd react to the stories I write. It does sound like with age this type of situation won't be as worrisome.

My family all know about my comic - my mum doesnt read it bc i wont let her, my sister doesnt rly care, but my dad supports me on patreon and reads along as i post. he also drove me across the country to visit a degree course in comics (he really liked it too it was awesome)

i wouldnt change a thing of it for my family. its kinda why i dont let my mum read it; i pussyfoot around her a bit, subconsciously, so i dont want that getting into my work. im very lucky, though, to have very accepting and laid back parents, so the lgbt elements arent a problem at all. i was hesitant to show them at all, because im very guarded and like to keep my online and irl life as far apart as possible, but i eventually let my dad read it because i wanted feedback on readability, and then to help me out on patreon. my mums just aware it exists afaik.

Everyone in my family knows (I mean, I live at home and spend dozens of hours a week sitting at the living room table drawing it, hahaha) but my parents don't read it. They'd really like to read it, and there's nothing in it that they wouldn't support (I think, anyways) but I don't let them because I've never liked letting adults read my comics. Same goes for my grandparents, haha, I gave them copies of the art, actually, but they aren't allowed to read it. Again, just because I'm shy and awkward. My parents and most of my grandparents are SUPER DUPER supportive anyways.

My siblings are a completely different story. I have five of them, and they are all forced to read it over and over and over and over again. They help me out with a lot of editing… I even use my 7-yo brother to check how followable it is (if he can't read the speech bubbles in order or can't describe what the actions on the page are… I redo it. Gotta make things readable haha.) I also pay one of my sisters to flat my pages pretty regularly. My siblings are great and they're very patient, especially since only one of them is actually interested in comics, and a couple of them flat-out hate comics and reading, haha!!

My dad reads it. My mom doesn't (I sometimes feel like she worries I'm gonna become a NEET, lmao). My grandmother tries to, but she's not good at English, so she just looks at the drawings. The rest of my family just kind of ask me how it's going, and then I'll show them the newest page.

My mom, my dad and my sister know and they are really proud of that; however, sometimes it can be a little bit awkward because my dad starts telling me that he will tell all his gay friends to read my comic because he knows that my comic is BL, and I'm like:
No, dad, this is now the way it works.
It gets a little bit more akward when my sister tells me how big a draw the dick of my characters hahahaha XD

I'm pretty sure they're aware that I make comics, but I haven't shown them so as far as I'm aware, they have no idea where I post them or what I post.

Actually, it's probably because of my family that I continue to draw my comic! I always drew for fun, and before long, mom and dad were telling me I should try to go pro. I wasn't particularly gifted at cartooning (hopefully that's since changed), but I think it was my love of cartooning that they saw in me.

My Comics are based on my friends and Family so I had to let them know what I was up to; and run the comics past them.

My Mothers reaction to being in one of the comics was "I've been tooned?" She thought it was good, her only criticism was when she saw I drew her Cat in one of the cartoons... apparently I didn't get the eyes right.

Siblings are okay with them, but I don't make anybody out to be bad...

My entire family knows that I make comics. No one in my immediate family is supportive of me doing comics (or anything really) unless they see a ton money in it. I also still live with them. They also don't have any faith in me whatsoever. Everyone outside of that though has been supportive every step of the way. I have not shown them my newest webcomics because I know that they will look at it with disdain, so I generally avoid showing them anything nowadays.

LOL same~! I'm popular in webtoon and yet my family and my friends didn't bother to read even just episode 1 haha. I told them i got 11k subscribers and they just "OK". tch

This is something I have struggled with for years and had to come to terms with.

My family knows I worked on comics for about 3 years know but is unsupportive unless I make as much $ as my feonsay. I wish I could say they don’t like the content I create but they don’t even bother to read it to find out.

Do their opinions influence your decisions?
Yes I don’t really talk to them anymore since they were not a big supporter in my stories or comics I just stopped trying to make them care.

I have had this conversation with my love many of times when it comes to family. “The only people who read my work are you and people I can’t see.” “Then I will be your biggest fan.”He says. My loves parents do support what I do but don’t read my comic. But they have told me there colleagues at work read it though. Before I started the series Demon Shrine I told his parents what it was about and what the real meaning of it was. Since his parents are also christian I did not want them to think I am a devil worshiper or something (..that can cause a lot of issues); they seemed understanding.

All in all this is just my circumstance most families are supportive and understanding of their children. You shouldn't worry too much what your parents think about your projects if you are to embarrassed about telling them then don’t. But if you want them to know don’t feel you need to tone down a story to fit your parents approval rating. After all they might not be your right audience ;p
