Draw figures in your work

Hello,

When drawing a figure, do you work from imagination, a live model, or a wooden figure?

I sketch from imagination and then decide what needs improvement and then
I usually use reference or take my own reference pictures.

I made a coulple of "swipe" files for all my characters with poses thst work or look
good and I recycle them when I draw.

I use the Handy art reference tool for feet and hand references.

I do both. When I draw my story, I just go with the flow and draw, what my mind feels like. For training and when I have a pose, I struggle with, I use reverences and my sketchbook.

I work out the figure in my head first, and if its a particularly challenging pose, I either use my action figures or a 3d model as a base.

If it's familiar, draw from memory.
If it's a new pose, find references from free stock photos.
If no reference is found, call a friend.
If no friend is available, use the mirror.
If all fails, improvise, adapt, overcome.
That's how I do it.

Sometimes I can picture how I want the scene to look, but I have to use a reference or the character's pose won't come out right.

If i'm confident in the pose imagination/experince.

But when i start struggling i find similiar poses to practice on and use as reference.

Sometimes i take reference shots myself.
