So, uh... Anyone seen a drop in new subs since the update?
Maybe I just suck but I've been noticing a dramatic slowdown of new subs since the site update.

Anyone?

Relevant info: comic has 69k subs, updates daily (so no weird spikes and drops due to that), is mature so it is hidden on the app, it is currently promoted in the vampire feature section so I imagine it could have been even worse without it. My patreon growth came to a standstill around the same time the site updated. By standstill I mean no new patrons, which for a big creator translates to "losses are not compensated". Usually you expect losses to be compansated plus a bit extra meaning a slow growth, but around the site update i saw only lost patrons without new ones to make up for it, and the subs on the lowest day were barely enough to equate what I assume I lost in subs (yeah when you have big numbers it also means big daily unsubs).

I don't want to complain too much because I know tapas is working hard to fix it and I really love this site, but that one standstill day on patreon really scared me. I'm trying my hardest to keep my company growing until they get it fixed but I really do hope the algorithm and general site setup is something they're planning to fix because right now mature comics that aren't trending are vanishing into the void.

(My patreon has begun to recover, just thought I'd mention because I don't want anyone to pity me, all I wanted was to provide relevant information)

Yep, i most defiantly have and i don't even check. it took a shit ton of weeks to reach 4k and even with that, it dragged a while before i got there. now reaching 5k seems like its gonna be a year work and honestly at this point. i'm good. i will focus on the readers i already have. not to mention the new website dosen't help much *sigh...

Honestly? As much as I would try and find any reason to complain about this update, I have not noticed in any unusual changes so far. View counts are only low because I didn't do an update this week but it's not anything shocking compared to the rare times I had to skip in the past. I did get my normal amount of subs so far too. So all is fairly normal for me.

Golly! If you rely on your Patreon for a living, that must be terrifying!

Glad to hear it's recovering!

My Patreon also took a hit but not as much as I diversified to other websites. Still, it was noticeable.

I honestly haven’t noticed anything, my veiws likes and subs are roughly the same as they have been for the past two months, but I’m a small comic creator so No idea if that is gonna matter to the new algorithm.

We should remember it is March and from my memory this is the time period where people are dealing with spring break and having their kids home Or scheduling trips. There’s always gonna be slower months then others. We’re also having elections in the US and people are freaking out about the virus so a lot of viewership eyes are on news sights and watching numbers right now. I’d wait to see how this Month compares to April.

Well, considering the fact that they decided to hide the subscribe button, I'm surprised anyone is subscribing at all!

I wanna ri

I wanna ride The Last Stag back to normality!

I didn't get that many subs anyway, but I feel like there has been a drop in views. But I just started a hiatus this week, so maybe that has to do with it. I don't know, things have just felt really slow this month.

Its terrible. it's like a math equation to find that S***. i don't understand how they designed this and thought it was a good idea. i mean, i like the concept but they changed so many essential things that didn't need to be tampered with. if i didn't know any better i'd say they are trying to weed out some people. i could be wrong.

Same. Drop in new subs, views etc.
I don't know when(or if) they are going to fix it, so far I just post new pages on webtoon... Because if both of sites censor our comic, I'd prefer something that have more audience.
Sorry for my bad English.

If I am allowed to theorize, I believe it's more an attempt to create an algorithm that gives visibility to more people while maintaining a high turn ratio of viewers-to-subscribers. The tapas peeps have good intentions and are passionate about creative freedom and diversity last time I checked, the only thing I can imagine them wanting to weed out is hateful and/or illegal content.

Somewhere along the line, this attempt failed

So it's you who has been stealing my subs!
Get him, boys!

Yakety sax plays and a comedic chase ensues

This is a screen shot of my view stats from the day before the change and after the update. Also, my comic didn't appear in the 'fresh' category on Monday when it updated. Will have to see if it appears tomorrow morning.

Subs have remained sort of normal as I normally get 1-2 per update.

For my two series that have updated before and after the site revamp. Both have an uptick in views after the revamp. Heavy Horns also had a few more subscribers. Still, it's TOO EARLY to tell how the revamp is affecting comics, but I'm posting for fun so lurkers won't get anxiety and think the sky's falling down.

Sarota Springs (updates on Mar 3 and 10)

Heavy Horns (updates on Mar 1 and 8)

I agree with the point that it's too early to see if the redesign is having such a massive impact.
Personally I have seen a drop-off of subscriptions, views, likes, kinda everything.
But I don't blame the redesign (yet). It's more likely due to me having pushed back a lot of the newest pages, full-time student and all.
So I blame life.

It`s because your comics are display correctly in "popular", "trending chart" etc. Some of us were not so lucky.

Not sure about popular, my comics haven't hit that in a looong while. I mean, unless you saw it with your own eyes. Cuz I sure didn't. I even checked on Heavy Horn's update day. And I don't think I had a concentrated enough spate of attention/engagement for trending, especially Sarota Springs which is a more niche comic that's never seen popular.

I'm glad that at least some people are not being adversely affected, but personally, I'm so sick of this never ending shit-fight.
First, Tapas pulled me out of the app with no notice, then Webtoons launched Canvas and my views drop by half, and now Tapas does this shit and I get fucked over... Again.

If it's not one thing, it's another.
I feel like a fucking punching bag.

I just can't win.

I wonder if it's just the universe telling me to give up?

Honestly I'm thinking of leaving the comic game.
Aside from maybe the occasional passion project or commissioned project where I get paid upfront, I'm beginning to focus on novels as my creative outlet. If I'm not going to make a living, I can at least try and tell as many stories as I can before I die, and comics are just too slow a medium for that.

I'm a small creator and my stats have actually gone up a bit ^^ Still, could be coincidence.

I'm pretty shit at making comics but I'm even worse at everything else, so it's comics or nothing for me.

I'm considering leaving Tapas and Webtoons and keep the comic going in a scaled down format on Pixiv and my Patreon only.

At least I know that a sizeable portion of my Patreon supports this idea.

I see Sarota Springs in popular right now ^^

It is "Horror" top, but you are visible in "all genres" too. Congratulations btw!

Unfortunately, some comics (mostly nsfw, but not only) don't show in many categories after update. It looks like some weird restrictions.

Hm, I don't see it under All > Popular. But I guess showing up in horror is fine (and at the very bottom of trending currently).

To tell the truth, I never look at what shows up in individual genres. I have an unhealthy mindset that it's all or nothing. So I try not to get wrapped up in the numbers and ignore the home page entirely.

I mean: you have not technical restrictions here
PS: Please sorry for my short and illiterate posts, I can't speak English very well.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure Tapas is aware of the bugs of series not being visible and are working on them. So I still think it's early to jump to conclusions, especially when things are still being ironed out.

If you have a specific series you know isn't showing up, it doesn't hurt to e-mail staff at feedback@tapas.io or make a thread here to ping Yoon.

I've had a massive drop in subs and views since Feb, I've had no new subs in the past week.
Sometimes this just happens though, it's disheartening but I just have to hope it gets better soon.

I haven't noticed a drop in new subs or anything, in fact this has been one of my best months for subscribers, although I am relatively new.

Sometimes there are just slow months, in fact sometimes you can pinpoint which months are usually slow and compensate for them.

It should also be noted that plenty of people have decided to leave Tapas after the update.

I think it's too early to tell, to be completely honest.

I also think the site update doesn't affect most of the readership on tapas. These forums are accessible only to desktop users (or mobile users who for some reason read on the desktop version of the website in a browser on their phone) so of course if you get most of your readers from the forums, you're going to find the update to the site affecting your stats.

My actual comic website has mobile vs desktop analytics and just over 50% of my readerbase on there reads on mobile despite the website not being optimized for mobile use. I'm assuming where tapas has a whole mobile app, my mobile readership on here is much higher. The redesign wouldn't have bothered anyone reading on mobile, therefore most of my readership isn't bothered.

As for a drop in stats, I find every once in a while I have a low week, it happened in mid-February and it happened last week as well. Most of that I attribute to my comic not hitting the trending category, because as soon as it gets high on trending, the new subs pour in. Here are my stats from last month with the highest sub day highlighted, and the three update days I've had this month. As you can see, I got more subs on yesterday's update than I did in on any one day in February, while March 3's update trended much lower than average (which admittedly made me go "oh no it's over" lol).

This got really rambly I'm sorry, the tl;dr is: it's too early to tell, and most of your readership probably has no idea the website changed anyway.

I've noticed that free to read comics no longer require that "update within 24hrs" threshold to show up on popular (I saw mine on there on the weekend, days after I updated) so as long as the popular free-to-read comics don't drop off after 24hrs of no update, other comics that aren't as consistently pulling in new subscribers/views aren't going to get the chance to show up.
