Hello all, it's been roughly 6 years since my friend and I took a one-off illustration, developed some story ideas, and put pencil to paper to make our very own Sci-Fi comic, Junior Citizens!
We're currently on Part 5 of 8 in our Sixth and Final chapter.
How have you ended your series or plan to? Did you drift away or finish it the way you wanted? Do you plan to return? Are you already working on a sequel? Do you have plans for the story once it's finished?
Some info for ours. Dan and I (Ian), old friends, met for coffee one day and were joking about an illustration I did. This spiraled into old Sci-Fi stories & Cold War dynamics. Eventually we decided to work together on a story, which became Junior Citizens!
A lot has changed since we began. We did this between our regular work and posted when we could, originally it started on tumblr before finding a home on Tapas (was Tapastic when we started, was once in the Daily Snack), Tabulit (defunct unfortunately), Webtoon (always behind due to formatting for vertical, it will catch up eventually), and partially in print!
The art style shifted slowly, what we wanted to do with the story became clearer, and we had to adapt our time around the other things in our life that pop up over the years, as they do.
The ending materialized around the 3rd chapter but it seemed so far away. At one point, I wasn't sure we'd ever make it there. Luckily, it worked out. We're happy with how we got the story to end and are anxiously waiting to share it with everyone.
Already thinking of a follow-up but I know that will have to wait behind some other projects that have been on hold since Junior Citizens has taken up most of the free time I've had to draw.
We're nearing completion of a collected version for early May done via print-on-demand. Already have a proof copy and it's odd to see so much time in one small item. Really excited to see how it goes.
Stay healthy everyone and thank you for reading.
-Ian (of Junior Citizens)
Bonus: A panel from each chapter!
