I once had a character named Grant that was supposed to be Rip's best friend once they met up. Then...I brought them together in an RP as a test, and soon found out that these characters could never be friends.
They approach life in such different ways, that a friendship could not form, and they'd be left with a tenuous co-worker relationship at best.
It turns out, that Rip is such a headstrong character, it's very, very difficult to grow close to him. Not impossible, just very hard for the simple fact he's always going to act first, ask questions later.
So when I eventually bring Grant into the comic, I'll be operating on an expectation that they will more than likely end up as rivals, instead of friends.
Then...there's Rip's relationship with his older, adopted sister Freya. It's extremely toxic, mostly coming from Freya's side of the table, as she bullied him constantly growing up, resenting that he essentially took her place as father Vykir's favorite.
I want them to eventually become friends and bury their hatchets, but not quite sure how to reconcile that just yet.
But, yes, I would like to have evolving relationships in my series, that change due to choices made in canon.
