Expanding to webtoons (for those who use it)

Though it isn't entirely related to the topic at hand, the warning about the commenters is pretty useful before going into WT. I've gotten... One? Rude comment on Tapas, and I get like 5-6 every episode on Webtoons. I even had people who were angry at me when I told them I had to go on hiatus to rework the comic because WT was going to start paying me, and I got plenty of angry people who wanted me to continue doing the comic for free and berated me for not rejecting the offer to be paid for my work and instead continue to upload week by week for free.

Webtoons audience is mostly children/teenagers that don't understand the amount of time that goes into comics as well as that people have to go on hiatuses to catch up with real jobs/school/work, so expect a decent amount of rude kids in your comments section.

IMO I'd reccomend giving it a trail period! See if you like it or think it's worth it, but if it's too time consuming with not enough payoff - just let whatever readers you gain on WB know you're headed back to tapas for workflow reasons.
Personally I really love webtoons. They have some draw backs as mentioned above, but within the 2 years I've been around I feel they've made some nice improvements for the discovered (non hired) creators. They originally had a rotation highlight, then added a "fresh picks" section, now some genre specific promos, and recently starting having front page banners for discover creators alongside featured webtoons.

I have 92k readers on webtoons vs 122 readers on tapas. While numbers aren't everything, as a creator I enjoy sharing my stories with others - and webtoons has good traffic.

I started uploading my comic to both platforms at the same time (and also instagram but on a delay).
I noticed WebToon's discover section gets a decent amount of traffic. If you update multiple times a week you can easily build up an audience of 1k in a week (depends on genre a bit). After about 10 weeks I noticed my numbers stagnate (subscribes and views).
Webtoons is a chore to use unfortunately but its worth it. The audience there can be very dedicated and Im glad I post there too because otherwise would not have had the pleasure of chatting with those folks

I think Tapas has much better community features though (forums, user pages, events, supporter program). I was featured recently but even before then I managed to steadily acquire a small amount subscribers/views with each update. You can actively reach out to the staff here too. I don't even know where to do that on webtoons? maybe the help pages?

Of course instagram is not a comics platform but it does offer good exposure when done properly. I get dms for comic site suggestion often and I always suggest Tapas because its so much easier to track whats going on here ^^; Also from a management perspective its the best experience Ive had, outside of hosting my own comic's website.

Yes, I've seen on different artists accounts (on twitter) that some readers could be very... entitled At the same time, you can also have very supportive readers.
Congratulations on being featured BTW A lot of hard work is paying off (literally !). Do you mind if I ask a question ? Were you in touch before you got featured or one day you "suddenly" got a message saying "hellooo we are happy to..." (You know what i mean haha).

Like many people here, I still think posting on webtoon is really worth it especially if for a lot of us, our main goal is to share our stories with as many people as possible.

I started uploading a month ago (almost every week but had to change to bi-weekly because of work (the other work x) ) and got about 200 subs and less than 3k views. Not sure what is the norm (if there is any...) but I'll try to take it positively and say I think it's okay for now. I know there are a lot of new webtoons that exploded and had like that number of subs in just one episode and it's true I was envious sometimes but I'd rather stick to the story I want to tell.

Thank you, they sent me an email letting me know they were interested and if I wanted to talk about it. I had no contact with anyone from WT prior. I honestly didn't even understand what featured even was until like a month in xD
