How many of you use music to help you write your story or put you in a specific mood?

To me, I truly enjoy Deep House. The genre is capable of evoking so many emotions, which I use to gain a little more emotional depth and understanding of the characters.

If I need to create a tense sequence, I usually use movie soundtracks. My favorite one is this a score named Beast from the movie Sicario, which I will admit has one of the most tense sequences in cinema history. The music just keeps building in intensity throughout the score. Another I strongly recommend is Supermarine from the movie Dunkirk. I love how Hans Zimmer included a sound like the ticking of a clock in the background. It just creates that tense atmosphere that does not let go throughout the score. Since my book requires tense sequences, I usually enjoy using soundtracks.

Music is one of my favorite topics! I'm inspired by many kinds of music but one of the biggest is Trance music. I got really into Anjunabeats when I entered middle school and even still today, nothing compares to the euphoric, driving beats of this label for me (oh man, it's hard for me to only pick a few examples omg):

...I write over-the-top sci-fi so yeah. This music is perfect for my work and personality!

I love Anjunabeats. I'm mostly into Anjunadeep, but both channels are fantastic. Your choices are awesome. I think I found a few more music to add to my playlist.

What kind of stories you tell with your music choice? Drama? Romance? Or maybe something more emotional?

Oo, music! Usually I put on a trap/chill mix. The chill part has enough atmosphere to cover the mood, and the trap part can add tension to a fight scene or even an inner conflict scene. So it's pretty nice for whatever I'm writing at the moment.

i really enjoy writing with music, as for which type of music it depends on what im writing, if its something cute/romantic ill listen to happy songs, if its sad ill listen to sad songs, etc.
I also have songs dedicated to each major character

I love trap/chill mix. Seems like 'chill' and 'house' are the common denominators for people looking to evoke emotions when writing. I can understand why. It's really something when you really feel something when writing and that's possible with chill, deep house, trance, etc.

Interstellar has absolutely fantastic soundtrack. Tick Tock is incredible. Imperfect Lock is another example of a tension-filled soundtrack.

I listen to Shenmue music (especially orchestra version) from time to time cos' I love old fashioned symphonies, and some of the tracks fit well with my Asian influenced comic.

Music absolutely helps me write! My current novel, Cyberblood, has punky, "dirty club" vibes, and I have an entire playlist for the songs that would play in the background were it a movie lol.

Right now, I'm playing Green Day's "Nightlife" on repeat for one particular scene. I've found that it fits a cyberpunk vibe pretty well.

I also listen to a lot of Lady Gaga for the club scenes. What I wouldn't give to be dancing in a futuristic club that's absolutely blasting Lady Gaga and Green Day at top volume.

Orchestral music has that power to it doesn't it? It's like you just want to do something epic. Here's hoping your book turns epic.

That's absolute madness. But then again, battle scenes are absolute madness. I switch to Doom's soundtrack to get me in the fighting mood. I think you might have heard this one, but I still recommend it. For some reason, it makes you want to break something (perfect mood for battle scenes).
