Font Sizes for Print

Yyyeah, I once again have a question relating to printing sizes...well, sort of. I'm currently working on tweaking my old chapters for it later and I'm about eight pages into the first chapter....and before I go any further I need to make sure of something.

The pages are at 360 dpi, and the font size I'm using is around 8.8pt, do you think that would be too tiny and hard to read in print form?

I do have my own little printer I can maybe test this on, but it's in need of new ink, so I thought I'd just ask here for now. ^^;

This isn't the FULL size, obviously, but perhaps it might give people an idea of how it looks -

Boy, I was kind of dumb in how I put in text back in the day. Sooo cramped and messy. I'm not even sure making the text much bigger is an option because of this... x__x;

What are the page dimensions?

2565 x 3690 pixels..
Or 7.125 x 10.25 inches.

Just did some ghetto measuring (don't ask, lol) and it's legible on my end. But I can see how it could be a strain on the eyes if read for an extended period of time. Would it be possible to up it to 9 pt for the font and make the bubbles a smidge larger?

Hoooo, well I can try. Again, unfortunately I was bad about cramming too much into too small of space back in the day, but I guess I'm just going to have to do some tweaking and moving things around (and maybe cut down some unnecessarily bulky dialogue) so this thing doesn't give people a headache to read. XP

I agree with @joannekwan, a sligthly bigger font and a teensy bit wider bubbles would do the trick!

But however, I'd say: test-print a copy before you do any tweaks. I think it'd be readable in the size you're making it in even tho it might be a stretch there.

@joannekwan is right for print 9pt is good. typically for print that size you should stay between 9-11. always print
a one off too lol good luck!

Thanks for the tips, guys. I might just go ahead and bump it up to around 9 to 9.8pt (9.8 is my usual size). If I have to tweak some dialogue and go outside panels sometimes so I can use bigger balloons n' such, then I just gotta. It kind of needs it in some areas anyway, it's a mess. >.<;;

8-9 is too little. I used it back in the days, but the result wasn't that good. It was too small (the format of the book was little by the way... like a standard book, so not a comic book format)
Go with 9.5-10. You can always reduce a bit the interline between the text lines.
I think you can reduce a bit the space between a letter and the other, too (from the image is a big space, you can reduce it easily without compromising the readability).
In this way, you save space, so you can switch the font to a bigger size and make it more readable.
And you dont' need to enlarge the bubble.

Weelll, I've tried to make some of the bubbles more spacious where I can at least, but for the most part the panels won't let me make them much bigger anyway without going outside of them. XP

Technically, it depends on the font. I used Wildwords as my dialogue font on my Clique book(print), and at first I was using 9 pt type- I eventually took it down to 8 pt and I feel comfortable with that.

Where as with Ray Thunder, I'm using Meanwhile as my dialogue font...I tried using it at 8 pt, but was still large, so I took it down to 7 pt.
