Yes! I feel like so many people get caught up in the mentality that everything you write or draw has to be publishable or sellable or the next big thing, but writing and drawing are good for the soul. Do it because you enjoy it or because your soul needs it, and don't let yourself get caught up in the pressure of having to monetize your hobby.

Hell yeah! Your hobby doesn't need to be profitable, because it's not your job, it's a hobby and those often cost time and money.

Besides, oftentimes people will surprise you and be much more interested in your weird niche stuff than you ever expected them to be. Hardly anyone only likes what's popular and mainstream (even if they also like some or many mainstream works, which is not a bad thing). So besides the fact that numbers don't always matter unless it's your main source of income, you might actually get an audience of passionate weirdos like yourself who adore your work with all its quirks and flaws.

This is exactly why I started writing Julian Rhydderch. Literally no one could stop me and I didn’t have to impress anyone. It was all for me! (I’ve been laughing maniacally like a supervillain while writing this because ‘it was all part of my plan!!’)

But seriously, writing something for myself is so liberating. Sure it’s got some flaws, but this was mostly for fun, so I’m not too worried about other peoples opinions.

It's free content, you're not even paying for website hosting (but maybe you are and then it's your money), and there's so many horrible mainstream works that get sequels or new seasons all the time with zero effort. Do what makes you happy, it might just be what someone else really needed in their life, or what you needed in yours.

This is so true. It's hard for some to get passed the perfectionism we desire, but the story doesn't have to be perfect. Heck, I've loved stories that others considered awful or terribly written. I thought they were the best thing ever. It all boils down to taste. No matter what you're writing novel or comic, there's a reader out there somewhere for it. Nobody likes the same thing. It can just be hard to realize that and get disappointing when the series doesn't instantly become a hit or it feels like nobody enjoys your work.

It's so freeing once I adapted this mindset.

My stories are self-indulgent. People reading and liking it are a nice bonus.
