Funny Ideas to Name Things

I had a really funny thought that I wanted to share. At work, we were doing a Jurassic Park trivia in one of our meetings and there was a question about what the name of one of the raptors was. (It was Blue.) And it got me thinking about how kinda silly creatures names are. In stories like LOTR, naming a dragon, Smaug, makes sense. But there are some stories where the creatures are named things like "Nazilgrath" or "Pimbum" (both names are silly words I just made up)

I think it would be a fun twist for a story, instead of naming your character's pet dragon, "Phydeaux", name him something like Howard or Jeff. "Hi, everyone! This is my pet dragon, Howard." "Jeffrey, stop torturing the nice man. It's not nice to play with your food!"

Or have a 70-ft T-Rex named Josephine who is the special friend of a human grandmother who loves to give Josephine and all the other dinos lots of love and attention. (This idea was actually inspired by my coworker/work mom who we call Nana. She thinks Jurassic Park would have ended a lot differently if the dinos all had a nana's love.)

I was having a lot of fun with it in one of my books, particularly with the gnomes.

Lukrezia Pomponos had her mortal enemy called Tibalt Sonorous.

With humans and dragons I had a bit of fun too...

My ideal white knight, the dragon-paladin with a beautiful name Ferrante got a nickname Fefe. That one was thanks to looking at mafia members' names when a stunningly romantic Fiori got shorthanded to Fifi.

His rival dragon is Panthuthian but, understandably, goes by Eldwin.

For a while, the Prince was called Sighard, but I felt it was on the nose, so I switched to Sigvart, but Ferrante does call him Sighard at some point.

Yes, I guess that's when he gets in touch with his softer side. Or, maybe, a plushie of him could be called that. Iirc his mom also calls him Fefe at some point, but I can't remember. It's been a while.

I too give weird names to some of my characters.

I use food names for comic relief characters like 'Tudo' & 'Sanwi' (X-Tudo Sandwich, get it?) or a name that is a noun/verb and add -er. 'Bounder' (Idea came from some cartoon character names: bomber, strider, grounder etc.)

Nice. I always like it when pets are named unusual things. Some American names are common for pets like Bailey or Max but there are some names that kill me, like naming a pig Arnold.
