That's an interesting interpretation and I can see why many have guessed he is prideful. He is self-loving, but not to the point of narcissism (yet). He is a high ranked man so he often wears refined attire although he'd rather wear comfortable clothes in which he can easily run.
Ooohoo your interpretation of the quote is interesting. He's not the one speaking but rather, he is being spoken to. That's probably why he's perceived to be arrogant and illogical. He's a warrior and he does participate in the business of slavery although he doesn't agree with ancient traditions. The last part is spot on! He loves planting seeds of doubt in the minds of others. He's not the most innocent or righteous protagonist.
There's no need for apologies or thinking your thoughts are wrong. This thread is for creators to have a chance and see what others first see in their works. Of course, some interpretations will be off or totally wrong. I find it interesting that there are different responses.

The quote reminds me of a scene in King Lear. I'm not sure if you've read the play, but it seems like someone will either go blind or die ("the last thing you'll ever see"). In King Lear, a character is blinded after saying he refuses to figuratively see another man suffer. So, without eyes, he won't have to fear seeing the suffering person. Though I am leaning towards Achnex's death.
It also seems like an important contract had been broken. Perhaps the contract between Achnex and the character speaking. The contract is important enough to warrant Achnex's demise.
I think I'm very wrong with the quote.
The character made me think a few things. He looks mysterious, like a knight of darkness. Black is often associated with evil so he could be a very OP character or he is a villain. He has three eyes. The third eye represents wisdom or clarity. He could be an all-seeing character. Either that or three eyes look cool.
I'm not sure if I see a smirk clearly, but he must be confident.
His ears are pointed, perhaps an elf?

Wow, that was difficult. I hope I got at least half correct.
Edit: I wrote a lot. I apologize in advance
