Genre combos you'd like to see

Pretty much the title. When I first posted a thread here I mentioned a comic idea I had combining fantasy and noir. Which. Will be put for the backburner but that's for another story--
but I'm curious! What kind of genre combinations would you like to see? I'm not really talking about stories that span several genres, I mean combination. Like taking the elements of both genres and tying it into a hybrid genre, if that makes sense. Example: fantasy noir, steampunk mystery, etc. Moreover, what kind of stories would you like to see with those genres?

I would like to see lovecraftian, or maybe supernatural, and sci-fi. I read this novel “14” and it has those all. I’ve never seen anything like that after that ;w;

Noir + sci fi, I think I've never seen one before , most of them use very vibrant colors, because of the sci fi genre, but it also depends on the story hmm

i defo think tech noir exists! a lot of cyberpunk vaguely fits into that category. but specifically, the realplay podcast friends at the table starts off its arc 'counterweight' as word for word 'tech noir' - it moves into smth more cyberpunky later on, but i think that tone is still present.

I wanted to see Psychological/Fantasy. So I started writing it. But I'm not good at keeping to a single genre. I like to throw in aspects of everything, because my world is just another world. So I can't tell if I get out of hand or not.

But slice of life/ fantasy is always good to see, too! I know you shouldn't world build in the middle of a story, but when people show off their ideas in a slice of life story, and how stuff in their world work, it's freakin' awesome to me!!

Horror x scifi/cyberpunk is a genre I would always welcome more of into my life. :U
Horror x portal fantasy would be great too. Give me some of those.

Honestly, I just want more people to be creative with the horror genre in general... spice things up. Give me something extraordinary and spare me the mundane murder mysteries and cryptid camping trips.

(s/n cryptids are awesome I love them so much, and murder mysteries and cryptid stories can both be amazing if done creatively!)

I like combinations that you don't see too much of - horror-comedies, romance where you'd normally never see it and less romance where you'd expect a lot. I enjoy writing about angels who hate their lives and demons who have good intentions.

I think you should write something that you would like to see. Something you haven't seen yet that you've always been itching to watch / read.

That's what drove me to start working on a story about mafia prize fighters that offsets the theme of organised crime with the tone of a sports manga. It's stupid but I really think there's a lot of potential in unexplored territory. It might become a comic one day? Who knows.

Hell, Hideo Kojima made himself world famous by throwing together spies, sci-fi, actual magic and... the concept of being a good dad??? even delving into both ridiculous comedy and heart-wrenching drama with equal amounts of creative passion.

Honestly: there are no bad ideas or even boring ideas, just bad or boring execution. So long as you have the drive to make something the best you can you will create something worthwhile. Hell, you could make something that everyone's seen before but take a whole new angle and make something iconic.

I actually really like political - fantasy. I /thiiink/ they're fairly common in novels? I haven't seen them much in comics, though.

Definitely more horror. Horror/romance, horror/mystery, horror/steampunk, horror/fantasy, horror/even more horror. Especially cosmic horror that has evolved past Lovecraft if you know what I mean.

Here's one of my Tapas faves that's very horror/mystery but hints there might also be romance in the future.

But I love horror stories in unusual settings. Like how Sunshine kind of became a horror movie at the end, or Event Horizon (gosh that scared me when I was young). Or even stuff like "horror stories that Middle Earth people would tell their kids that isn't just Sauron." Not just dark fantasy but actual horror fantasy.

ghosts in space i want it so bad. random concept im gonna throw at you right now: an astronaut, one of the old ones, not set in the future, and his partner are in deep space. however, due to unforeseen health complications, his partner dies. and right afterwards? communication breaks down with the boys down on earth. and strange things start happening - hand prints on the front of the shuttle, empty suits walking by themselves, sometimes the rest of the team sees someone waving at them from the outside...

Me neither, lmao. but yes, slice of life for fantasy is always interesting. it might be boring for others, but im interested to see how people in this world do the mundane things.

@feardeer go go go. i get you, man. horror's wonderful, especially when done different and well! tbh im doing a horror fantasy? i used to. then i had to change the script XD ces la vie.

@wumblebumarts i am, actually a mystery-fantasy combination, along with other genres. i don't think it's stupid, i think it's creative if it does become a comic, i hope it becomes a success.

@spudfuzz right? politics in fiction is interesting, even more so when set in a world different to ours.

@Croik oooooh, i getchu. i getchu. i think a horror that would be interesting to see in fantasy would be their versions of urban tales.
