Why do people OWN TARANTULAS AS PETS???!!!!!??????

i could never. I guess you can't have arachnophobia if you're gonna own one and you'd have to love them i guess lol.... Any of you guys like spiders? What do you like about them?

Our backyard is full of plants and some trees. A lot of insects and spiders have their home here. I really enjoy watching this buglife. It feels a bit like the game grounded ^^
It is interesting to see and it gives me inspiration and creativity.

Tiny ones I don't mind as much. But tarantulas, no way! I hate those things! They creep me out. I can't even look at a picture of one without getting scared.

Spider liker here! My older sister had one, so I can tell you first hand. A lot of the factors that may gross you out are exactly why people like them!
Their large size makes it hard to lose them.
They live a very long time for any pet of their size, but especially an arthropod (some females can live up to 25 years, though 10 is more likely).
Theres a lot of beautiful colorations they can have, some are electric blue even!
They’re incredibly docile and gentle, the stuff about not handling them is because their hairs are irritating and they’re very fragile.
Their slow pace makes them very relaxing to watch.
It’s pretty hard to learn to love an animal you’ve been told is creepy and gross your whole life, but if you step into a controlled environment (even just a YouTube video of someone explaining tarantula care) with an open mind looking for things to enjoy, they’re very lovable! Every animal has its place in the world, it’s not their fault we don’t appreciate them properly.

I love spiders. I used to want to own one and name it Pinkie Dinkie Doo. They are very interesting, and not scary if you just like animals

I have a huge interest in spiders... just not enough to own one.

When I was younger, there was a daddy long legs that made itself at home in the corner of my room. I never paid it any mind and it help with any flies that wandered in.

What I like about them is their complex nature throughout history.

My personal favorite is the Maratus Volans a.k.a. the Peacock Spider. They're so freaking cute.

I've had a total of 5 pet Taranulas throughout my life. (3 "full" size ones and 2 dwarfs. I prefer dwarf Ts tbh. Softer.)
Always got them as babies. Unluckily got males a lot of the time, so their life span wasn't as impressive as it could have been if they were female. (Aprox 5 years instead of 20. Besides my dwarfs, both of them were female but dwarfs also have shorter lives so. Blah. Don't have any right now. Roommate isnt keen on them, and my bf doesnt even like that I have T's taxidermied in my room...)

Why do people keep fish? Same concept. They're neat, they like them, caring for animals brings some people joy, a big aquarium can look good in a room, so on and so forth.

I don't like spiders, but one of my friends loves them to bits. Think spider clothes, spider soft toys, mini spider animatronics, and wants a tarantula one day when she's no longer living with people who dislike spiders.

I'd say it's weird, but I can't judge, i loved my cousin's pet rats when I was younger, i also had pet lizards from the age of eleven and I adore snakes, all of which a bunch of people are afraid of
