The reason this quote is so emo is the meaning behind it. Because what Steppe is saying to Stellar, well - no, unfortunately it may not have the impact he wants. Stellar is already questioning if they're on the right side of history. And as for Steppe, a guy can only get punched in the face by his emotions so many times before he decides to just toss them out the window. It's a sad situation these two are in all around.
