Joshua,

I've been informed that you are leaving Tapas. I have to say, this a very big loss for everyone involved. Suddenly there is this Josh8 (@TapasJosh) shaped hole in my Tapas heart.

If there's one thing I've learned about being a creator, is that connections matter. Deep down most readers want to have some degree of connection with the stories that are personally meaningful to them. Otherwise a series is no different than the next five minutes of entertainment. Connection is what sets us lucky few creators apart from everything else. Connection is what propels the unknown into the mainstream. They call it "viral"... but really it's connection.

In my past ten years in small business, I've come to discover that the best businesses are built on human equity, investing in relationships. People don't want clever ads and gorilla marketing, they want personal testimonials from their friends. People are flesh and blood, not 0s and 1s on a ledger. They laugh, they love, they cry. Individual people matter. And when things get down to the wire, when it looks like the impossible can't happen, the people you've given a little piece of yourself away to, they will come through for you.

Over these past few years, I've given a little piece of my heart to Tapas and with your departure it just won't be the same. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to make this one tiny Tapas creator, out of a sea of fifty thousand creators, feel valued and special. I don't think I would have ever given myself so much to spreading the word about the awesomeness of Tapas if it wasn't for how you've made me feel so appreciated.

Wherever the road in life will take you next, thank you for pausing in my intersection to give me a wave. You can't put the value of a relationship on a balance sheet, so all I can say is that whatever company is so lucky to have you next, they're scooping up a real asset.

Thank you again. I salute you.

Respectfully,
T.R. Racki
