Goodreads reviews?

I suppose this is a silly question but...

How many of you have found your stuff on Goodreads? I didn't know that that could happen. I guess I assumed that a lot of stuff here didn't have ISBN numbers etc.so it wouldn't go on the site. One of my beta readers found one of my pieces from Tapas reviewed a couple times there. I have a login there but I never pay attention to it.

I have a few books on Goodreads but I actively avoid checking in on em since I didn’t put em up there myself anyway and they judge much harder than the folks who tag me in posts saying they bought the books! Last I saw one of them had, like 400+ ratings which was neat but then I clicked away immediately.

I never go there either. The only reason I have a membership or whatever you want to call it, is because of my old job and constantly checking on things for the audio drama company. I did go in this morning and have found even some of my audio drama stuff and book etc. That stuff wasn't a surprise as it was stuff that's been for sale through the old company etc. This piece on tapas though... total surprise.

I was surprised to find some people posted 3 of my webcomics there with ratings and a couple of reviews.
Since I'm going to self-publish a novel, I made an account and quickly claimed them.

The site is more focused on literature so I'm sure lots of bookish people definitely use it. But it seems to be expanding its reach as webnovels and webcomics continue to grow and people cross-read.

Thanks for the info. It does say webnovel. I think that's good. There's an awful lot of webnovels that are great and should be recognized.

I have mine there
I thought it just had to be completed. So, I said I was the owner and now by book is linked to me

and for me same reason as @joannekwan I want to selfpublish, so I claimed it

The reviewers (there are two and it turns out one is another author that I know from England and the other person had read a great deal of my stuff) but they linked to Tapas so I'm not worried about anyone claiming it, plus it's been optioned for a screenplay so there's lots of paper trail. I hadn't planned on self-publishing, still don't at this point. I'll wait and see if the screenplay does anything (of course we all know what a loooonnnnngggggg shot that is.)

But I am curious about "claiming" something, in case this should happen again. I'm all ears and want to learn.

I also grabbed the reviews and popped them up on my webpage on the novel's specific page.

Found it and claimed it, but I try not to look too often. The ratings there are vastly different from here and other places I post. There's one really useful review, which I love. But without any other feedback, I'd rather not guess at what people think and make needless changes. It's nice to see that people are reading it, though.

You should be able to find your author page by clicking on your name where it's listed on the book's page. If you scroll to the bottom, there should be a link that asks "Is this you?" and you can connect it to your login. I think they have to verify you first, but that's where to look.

Okay, went in there and did it and told them this was a pen name and what my real name was etc. etc.

I meant a goodreads page can be a good way for marketing, because if you google your shit it would come out. It also encourage people to discuss and give review.

Your online existence even it is by yourself or from the others always affect your marketability, so does a Goodreads page. You are a professional and have won/nominated some awards, I thought you know better than most of us and just discussing. Sorry

Okay... this I will accept. the last time you said marketing to me you implied (or I got the implication, it is possible I misread it) less than professional behavior on my part, thus my taking umbrage and I apologize (also got snarked at today so last nerve is a little raw but that's no excuse.)

That aside,

I agree, this could be good marketing. Like I said, I wasn't aware of them, I know both the reviewers (it turns out) but they didn't mention they'd put anything on Goodreads and, as it turns out, you're supposed to "claim" ownership so those things have been sitting there for a few months without anyone doing that. I wish I'd known earlier.

Because the particular piece has been optioned there are terms of the contract that have to be met so I need to know if references to it are showing up anywhere. I realize the reviewers were being helpful but I wish they'd told me. The reviews don't go against the contract but there's always the chance of well meaning people dropping a ball.

Again, I apologize for taking umbrage.

Because the story is kind of tied up I'm not to worried about ratings (won't turn down good ones!!!!) but I worry about terms of the contract being violated.

Also, re the original claim, I have a feeling that will happen here because of the two names. I'm trying to keep my other writing separate from what I put up here. Why I choose to give myself a headache I have no idea.
