So do you guys ever say your novel will include some genre but you have been writing it for a bit and you have yet to incorporate it? No, just me?

I think it happened to me once... It was supposed to be a thriller but never got to that point xD but this is what i get for never planning the story and instead going with the flow

I'd say not to rush it. Decide what the story up till now is about (the main genre) and figure out the rest as you work on it. It will lessen the stress this way

I put down my story under the mystery genre but I doubt the general audience of the genre think of characters as mysteries as often when the plot is not... I don't think I've expanded on the mystery side of the story so far and it's more or less a buildup of a slice of life romance lol

Yep, been there as well with my first fanfictions.
Now I don't think about secondary genres until I'm at least halfway through writing my story (or plotted out all major scenes).
