Halloween Thread! Does anyone here like to decorate their home for Halloween? Do you dress up? Info and pics would be great!

Hey Guys

I know it's early but my mind is getting round to the time of ghouls and goblins in October (probably the torrential rain here in the UK!).

Do you go "all out" for Halloween? Do you do lots of displays in your garden and / or in your home? Do you create or buy costumes? What was your last one?

I grew up in a family that loved Halloween, who did lots of displays in the front garden... even a cauldron with stage fog and a small scare maze element in the corridor leading to the room where everyone "bobbed" for apples!

Halloween is my favorite holiday! I love carving pumpkins, and last year I made a giant light-up spider.

(The night picture is kind of bad, my phone camera doesn't handle dark well, but the eyes glow red.)

Unfortunately there's never many trick-or-treaters in my neighborhood to appreciate my efforts.

Every year my mom hangs a prop hand out of the mailbox. It's not very scary, but for years my neighboor thought it was a real hand because his dad told him so XO

Thanks to everyone for all the compliments! It makes me really happy that someone appreciates all the hours I put into it.

It was definitely a lot of work paper-mache-ing something that big, but I'm really pleased with the results. I'd be happy to post details of how I did it if anyone wants to try making their own (although I don't have many WIP photos because my phone died halfway through), the only part that might give someone trouble is the lights.

Ah yeah def post. I think that the lights on a Halloween prop can make such a difference. They add ooddles of atmosphere and can even help people notice your home for trick or treating

I loooove Haloween!! When we had a house instead of the apartment we decorated the front to look like a graveyard. Sadly we don't decorate anymore. We only have our Altar of the death (which sounds horribly wrong written in English but in Mexico is a common tradition) We put skulls, colored paper and pictures of people who had passed away. Lately, I feel like people no longer know the difference between Dia de Muertos and Haloween because they dress up and go out to ask for candies on November 2, when they should do that on October 31.

My everyday outfits include Halloween-esque clothes and I have some spiders and skulls in my rooms. I'm permanently celebrating Halloween.

I love to decorate.

A tradition we have is that I buy 5 or so full candy bars and give them to the best costumes.

I have always loved how Mexico celebrates this day! And how your culture in general views death and passing on in such a unique way...Not something to be feared or forgotten or pushed away but, instead, celebrated and honored, in a way. I hope that doesn't sound disrespectful lol. I just think it's incredibly cool.

Oh not disrespectful at all!! I'm so happy you think that way. It is very fun! I do think is weird, is not like we celebrate the death of someone XD we mourn and suffer death like everyone else but there is a sense of remembering them with joy at least for a day. You can ever write a poem that is making fun of the deceased person. Newspapers write them for famous people. You can also dress up as a Catrina which is a skull lady and visit graveyards. Some people pray and have a religious approach but overall you can see altars in all types of families from the richest to the poorest.

In childhood, I celebrated Halloween at the extreme by decorating the house, crazy for marvel or DC character costumes, disturbing my old neighbors. The best memories of Halloween are when I was in university. Those days I can't forget we enjoyed Halloween on the streets chilling out, at night parties by playing games. Those young days of mine with my friends are my favorite days.

My mom was always concerned about the budget when these festivals came. When it comes to finding costumes, I was not easily satisfied or chose. I always bothered my mother to buy other costumes too. Then my mom used to look for discounts and sales offers. Now, my kids bother me. They love to shop on every occasion whether it's Christmas, Halloween, or New Year's Eve. YEEEESSSS! It'll be weird this year with COVID restrictions, but we are still going to do it.

I'm in the UK so non of the neighbours decorate. They think we are weirdos. Haha!
