One time I submitted a book to a publisher and the response email said: "No."

Just gotta send them out like a plague and see who wants it. Although I'm tired of that game. I'm doing independent stuff now.

I submitted a short story once and got rejected, but rejection is part of being an artists, so I don't mind. I'm not going to give up on my goal of publishing.

I pitched my web comic to three indie publishers after I finished the first issue.

One publisher didn't respond at all.

Two publishers responded with the nicest rejection letters imaginable. Like I actually felt better after reading them. They said the enjoyed reading the issue and gave legitimate reasons for not accepting the submission (the length and full color being too costly, because the story was still in progress and not a self contained work, etc). They also gave some tips about self publishing, crowd funding, and distribution. One of the publishers even shared a link to my webcomic's site on their social media which gave me a nice boost in views!

So, three for three rejections on the project, but the silver lining is sometimes people are nice?

Not yet but my overall goal is to send my stuff to image comics in three -four years.

I've only submitted to anthologies and Sparkler Monthly, during specific submission periods, and for each one I got a generic rejection email (I don't blame them because they no doubt had hundreds of submissions to get through).

I'm going to keep on with my projects regardless, but it would be nice to have my work recognised by a professional one day, or get some real feedback.

One of them I guess rejected cause I got no response from them. The other rejected me with a very lovely email that felt like it gave honest criticism and a sincere evaluation. Both of them were Korean webtoon publishers that are expanding. Made me want to not give up and keep trying.

Lol at least you got a response, when I pitched/submitted a short comic years ago to multiple publishing companies years ago their response was total silence. Have not recieved a response to those specific pitches to this day.

I pitched Idyll Haven to DarkHorse a few years ago, and I was pleased to hear back from them.
They stated that they'd be willing to look at my graphic novel once it's complete, although...

I'm thinking of just going the self-publishing route. I'm not really comfortable with giving creative control over something I've worked on practically my entire life to someone else.

(I can provide the e-mail for proof upon request via PM, because I know it sounds like BS)

I've never formally pitched a comic to any publishers, but I've had informal conversations with several of them at conventions. It's one of those conversations which led to redoing all of the pages of Cowan's Crux and why it just started up again this month. Right now we're not sure if we're going to approach any publishers or try to go the completely independent route.

I have, yeah. Multiple times.
I did get an offer tho on one publisher, but when I asked for a longer deadline than 6 months, they went completely silent.
Figured I was better off anyway, as they told me I had sold MUCH more than they had (and they publish Luke Pearson's Hildafolk series).

So yeah, I got replies where they told me that they liked my style but wasn't able to do publish atm. One publisher I never heard of again.

But hey! I did it, and I did good. I didn't take a shit offer and I feel much better by doing so too

We pitched a comic to a publisher, and although they were interested in publishing, the details between us and them didn't work out. Seems my story is pretty similar to most indie creators. Their work gets accepted, but what a publisher wants and what the creator wants often doesn't match up.

Yeah, that's a pretty common issue I've heard. Where sometimes the publisher will come back with some requirements that really don't fit with what the creator wants to do or how they've already designed their book.
