Has your art become better since you started drawing comics?

Oh YES. Very much so!

When I started Fallacy 2 years ago, I hadn't drawn comic before and it showed. I had no idea how to combine active characters with backgrounds, drawing same characters again and again was a struggle to make them look the same each panel, layouts and perspectives difficult sometimes painful to make, the list goes on and on even if I had pretty solid grasp on drawing. But I had very limited comfort zone and I was constantly outside of it.

Now my production time for a page has gone down significantly as I'm so much more comfortable with drawing comics. Repeat has made drawing characters much easier and streamlined it, I'm finally starting to understand how to make characters interact naturally with environments, hard poses come easier than before same with perspectives. I'm trying new things with layouts (man, I really like one future page thanks to that)... Basically, I'm starting to figure out how to do this comic drawing thing. xD

I have still so much to learn and so much room for improvement but this is also so very rewarding.

I started drawing comics about 15 years ago, so I really hope my art got better haha CX

But, jokes aside, drawing comics really helps in improving your art. For one page, you usually have to draw at least 3 characters, in different positions and angles! And different backgrounds. And action scenes. And step outside your comfort zone. I probably would've never learnt how to draw old people if not for my comic C:

I used to draw lots of comics as a kid, so that's why it's 15 years CX wanted to tell stories, but in my eyes I could draw better than write, sooo.... CX
Oh yes, that's really important as well! And it's interesting that while looking at someone's works -especially comics- through years you can actually see how this person- and their way on thinking- has changed!

Oh yes. Definitely for me too. I only started a couple of years ago and have only been posting regularly since March but there's definitely been a big improvement in that time. Hopefully that will continue as I still have a lot to learn...

I believe my art style as a whole has drastically improved thanks to working on comics. This first helped make my drawings consistent with one another so it does not look so different. Before I started comics my art style was mediocre at best but i kept getting better as I worked. However, my skills didn't really start to evolve until one of my college professors pointed out one of my characters were anatomically incorrect. At first it felt horrible hearing that but, I took their advice and used more references to improve my anatomy. I struggled with anatomy for most of my life but several months ago I improved my anatomy further, its to the point there aren't any glaring weaknesses that can be seen unless you are an artist.

Comics also helped me draw better environments and design better characters. When I first started i made everything spontaneously this yielded poor results. The environment were bare and unidentifiable then the characters mostly all look the same or they looked just as dull as the environment. As I grew as an artist I swallowed my pride and research how certain things in the environments look like and how to design more distinct characters.

My art style has dramatically changed and I've only really been at comics for 3 years and drawing for 5-6!

So... this is VERY embarrassing (I'm actually a but nervous showing it haha,) but here is what my art looked like back in 2012. This was my first webcomic, which did wind up failing (although we do want to redo the idea eventually.)

drawing comics definitely forced me to draw outside of my comfort zone. buildings, hands, pretty much anything besides cute-looking people. i never learned to draw shoes until my first attempt at my webcomic where i had to draw a closeup of two of the characters' shoes; after that one excruciating endeavor, i was able to doodle shoes with ease.

I'm glad I started this because for a while I had this notion that I wasn't good enough, but a lot of webcomics start out that way. Boxer Hockey, Zapcomic, and Judecca to name a few. Over a course of time it just seems to solidify for everyone. I hope next year my current page will make me cringe after improving more xD

Waw! The first one is quite good already but the second has so much cleaner lines and appeal!:) The shading is so much better as well and the details
When I look at some of my old drawing s I can see how much I struggled to maintain the resemblance of my characters, especially the males... Now, with years practise the drawing of the features and expressions come more easy and naturally but I still struggle with the poses and the backgrounds. But I found out that I only learn and change if I accept a challenge - so I've consciously decided to choose more difficult poses and surroundings, even ones that I'm not sure I can draw, so that my skills can grow. It is fun if you don't take yourself too seriously. The problem with comic making is that as it takes too much time, the artist becomes too emotionally engaged in his project and sometimes starts to suffer if the feedback is not satisfying enough.

Yup, definitely! Art and storytelling improved so much and the most awesome part, not only I see it. Others noticed it at well. There's still much room for improvement, but that only hypes me up!

Waw! Such a huge improvement! It is like a totally different person has drawn the second one! So encouraging!:) Everything has improved - the oulines, the form, the facial expression!

One of the reasons I became a comic artist was because I thought my art skills became stagnant and I needed something new to challenge myself. I've been drawing my comic Sundaze for months now and it has improved my art greatly. It pushed me to draw things I normally wouldn't do like backgrounds and different perspectives.

At first I agonized about what the art direction of my comic would be but I realized some of the best comics/mangas didn't look perfect from the get go. You can literally see my style evolving as the comic pages, and while I think some scenes could be redone, I think it's a really special thing that adds to the comic and I'm glad you think so too ^^. Now I've gotten into the swing of things and I think I've found the style my comic should be.

I definitely see the improvement in your art style. When I first drawing comics my girls didn't even look like girls.

Your first picture looks good I didn't draw that well until I was 22. The second just takes what you did and takes it to the next level.

I definitely see the improvement from 2012 to 2015. The hair looks more natural and the face is better constructed.
