For me that might take several years...or decades  My series has 13 novels, and I'm working on the very first one right now :joy:

That's a really good point! Novels can usually expand on a character's inner thoughts and feelings more so than comics can, but I guess my mindset is sometimes like "oooh pretty pictures "

I'm actually the opposite- My story was originally going to be a comic/webcomic (I even have a few pages for it!) and I decided to turn it into an illustrated novel instead because I realized that I didn't have the energy for a comic.

I think it was a great choice. I wanted to have a webcomic for years, but I don't even think I would have started publishing anything if I'd stuck to that plan.

I would suggest a cover and at least 4 to 6 pages. You wanna give people an idea of how the artwork is gonna look and how the story is gonna flow when it's a comic. But not gonna lie on funding sites like kickstarter and indiegogo people are gonna be more interested in the artwork at first before they start to care about the story, just throwing it out there.

Hmmm...So we need to finish at least the first chapter. I'm confident about my artist's skills, I'm just worried if my story will pull the readers in within such an amount of pages. Though that's not as important, according to what you say.

Yeah the story itself will really become important when you are wanting to keep people interested for more funding for more chapters or issues.

I’m in the same boat. I started off with a comic but switched it to a novel because I wasn’t able to realize my vision artistically.

The good news is that now I’m able to work with super talented artists to create great covers and other extra art as I please. The dream would be to make it a full-fledged comic though

Glad to know I'm not the only one here who has a huge series planned out!

Oh, god, all the time.
But I'm not a good enough artist yet to do any of my works justice in a visual format like comics, and I am way too broke to pay someone to do it for me.

The only option would be pairing up with an artist friend, but then I'd feel awful anytime I'd ask them to make even the slightest change.

Same, I wish I had paid more attention in my art classes back in the day. Best I can do is some blobs :joy:

I can do some decent pixel art, but not really in any dynamic fashion yet.

I used to be okay-ish at drawing some very 2D anime-esque characters but that was like...10 years ago

I've thought about it a couple of times but I'd be too picky about the visuals to really get anywhere, especially because I don't yet have anywhere near the kind of skill to pull it off

Once I finish writing my novel and if the demand/potential for a popular comic is there, then I might ask someone to create a comic version of it. I can't draw as well as everyone on this website, which is why I made it into a novel in the first place.
