Have you guys been successful with your comics?

I've only been on Tapas since July, so not a long time.

Anyway, regarding popularity and income - 25 subscribers, $0.00.

I feel pretty successful though because popularity and income were not the reasons I started my comic. I started it for one reason - to improve my art skills, and I published it on Tapas for two reasons - to keep myself accountable and force myself not to be too perfectionist by setting deadlines for myself.

Success is easy to measure if you know what your goal is. I had/have one goal - to improve - and I have improved a lot.

I think it depends on your definition of successful. I'm not rolling in wealth from it, and I don't even think the hobby has paid for itself, but that's also not why I decided to do this. (Although I'm actually really amazed that I've made money at all- maybe $350 since I starteda yr ago)

LIke @A_Toad, I decided to draw a comic to get back into art and improve my art skills, and when I compare my first chapters to my latest, I 100% can see a big improvement and to me that is a huge success.

If you mean in simple terms like sub counts and whatnot then...nah. But, that's on my part for not being consistent with my uploads and feeling defeated too easily. I love drawing, I love making comics, but sometimes I can't help but let the negative thoughts dictate on whether I should bother if I have no audience. So it's a work in progress, really 8')

I've been on and off tapas and drawing on my phone still hurts my hand, so I'm taking a break from making comic, though I'll be continuing one of my project in another month or so tho.

If I went by popularity and income then I'd be failing at comics cause my Max subs on a single comic are 1.5k and 10$ from tips since I activated it months ago.

I feel like so many people measure success based on these factors because this is what social media has trained us to do. We are always extrinsically happy: finding joy only in the affirmation of ourselves from others. When in reality, happiness always comes from inside, and a sense of self-satisfaction and self-worth (at least in my mind).

If I go by Nightengale's definition of success then I'm incredibly successful because I'm still progressively working on the comics. My worthy ideal is a lifetime of creating stories and I'm acting upon that daily.

I think this is the best way to handle it. The act of creating is why we are all here, after all. So long as we can still create, that should bring us some joy.

Id like to think my success is more based on all the interesting people ive been able to bond with through my comics. My goals for my comics seem to be doing their jobs too even with my minimal subs so im fine with that.

im doing pretty well given im close to 2k subs, but i dont have the audience interaction/feedback i was hoping for, so i feel like im only halfway where i want to be

Yes and no.

Yes as in I'm very successful for my age. I have established myself quite well, with around 60k subs on tapas alone, and I can sustain myself and pay the bills with the income earned from my webcomics alone. That is an accomplishment that not many other 22 year old artists can claim.

No as in, if this was the peak of my carreer, I would be very disappointed. I've always dreamed of going big in entertainment and sooner or later also entering the music industry.
My audience and income is still seeing good growth though so I'm not all that worried. It's just a matter of keeping the work up and being patient, I think

I've printed and sold comics, so I guess there's "success" in that, but I'm not where I want to be right now. I'm not disappointed, coz I know the indie comics game is a long one; like @LordVincent stated, it's a matter of just being consistent and staying patient. For me, making my own comics IS the end game; if I could sell merch of my IP, then that is a bonus, but I want to be successful making my own comics.

Just like others, I'm happy every time I get a new subscriber or see a comment on a page I've worked so hard on; it lets me know that there are people out there that LIKE/love what I do. It gives me incentive to keep doing what I'm doing...

Well, while I have goals for my work I'm hoping to reach, I don't know what I'd consider success in the comic world.
I have a decent amount of subs(530 if you're interested) and about 50% seem active. They're wonderful people and I'm happy for that

It changes from day to day. Some days I feel great about it. Some days I question my sanity. Overall though, no, probably not successful. I can compartmentalize the levels of success, but as I look at the sum I don't feel successful.

at first I thought I was, but now I'm pretty unhappy with the drop in activity. I think my comic's been getting better, but I feel like I should have a bigger amount of people who are actually interested compared to the amount of subscribers I have

I think that equating success with subscribers and activity is a road to discouragement, because you don’t really have that much control over how popular your comic gets in x period of time. Setting goals that you know you can work towards is more encouraging, at least for me!

I didn’t think that I’d be able to make a webcomic because I was sick due to a brain tumor for a very long time. The fact that I can draw pages each week and improve my art is success enough for me right now, haha!

I've been at it for a few years now. I'm still unknown and have very few subscribers. A lot of people would probably think that I'm very unsuccessful, but to be completely honest... even though it looks very unpopular online, it's doing quite well in print versions. It's a hit at conventions and the people who bought the first few issues, bought the latest one that came out this year.
So, I guess being successful depends how you look at it.
It's a long series and it starts out pretty slow. I'm not sad when I see these numbers. Just to see that people are reading and enjoying it is wonderful. For some, it's even their favourite comic, so I'm over the moon.

Just getting started with RUDE PANDA and I feel I could do better as far as fans and income but I feel that I am successful when I keep to my deadlines and am still able to create a fun looking comic with some laughs.
