Hello ! I am IKI and I am very shy. (o^▽^o)

I am planning on creating my very first little slice of life comic although it is still in the writing and ideas phase. I joined Tapas in hope to make friends and getting out of my little comfort bubble ! ( ´ ω ` )

I also have a few questions ! ☆

  • What are ways to draw in readers to your comic?

  • What are some good ways to start the very first chapter of a comic?

  • What are the best days/time to post to a comic?

  • Any kinds of extra tips is extremely appreciated ! ☆

I was also wondering if there is a Tapas Discord? I would love to join !

If anyone is curious about my little slice of life comic, I'll type in a little summary and a few drawings of the main characters here ! (。•́‿•̀。)

An adult bunny struggles with anxiety and depression while trying to work towards improving their art to hopefully start a webcomic on their own.

ehhh I still have a very small following so I'll give some basic advice.

  1. Discord we have it! Almost no one uses it. I believe there is a pinned thread with the link.
  2. Just write something you really like, BL is popular but I kinda wonder if that market is flooded right now?
  3. Try cross promoting with other comics. See if anyone wants give you a hand basically.
  4. I don't think there really is a best day or time. But it does help if it's the same time each week.
  5. Have fun. If you are getting burned out consider doing a q and a week. If you don't wanna do that- just let your readers know. They are pretty chill here.
  6. If you feel you can keep up with it, try putting your info on other places too.
  7. Some people go for sub for sub. If you want to, that's fine but understand many folks here don't like it. The computer algorithms that help determine popularity and such don't like "dead subs" or subs that never look at your comic. Shows that it's boring for those people and they just haven't bothered removing it. But again, that is your choice.

ummm otherwise people here are nice and try to help. So do be clear if you want help or if you are ranting sometimes. It helps us support you the right way.

Take care and share your comic link when it's ready cause I love slice of life. If I'm comfortable the content I will be happy to cross promote with ya!

Welcome to Tapas!

Especially if it’s your first comic, a lot of readers will have to be brought in by self promotion~ That’s basically where you take the time to post about and advertise your comic around different places, like social media, reddit, these forums, word of mouth irl, etc. Otherwise if the hosting site (like Tapas, in this case) likes your comic and promotes it, you can get lots of subscribers as well. But that’s the exception, not the norm. Most of us have to self promote :>

There are any number of ways to start a comic, but I think the most important thing (especially for a slice of life) is to make sure to introduce us to and get us acquainted with the main character. How you do so is up to you.

There tends not to be a hard and fast rule for best day/time to post, in fact it ends up not mattering much. The pros to posting on the weekend is that there’s more traffic on the site, but the con is that lots of people post then so your comic often won’t linger on the “Fresh” section very long. On the flip side, mid-week there are generally less people on reading comics, but your comic will linger in fresh for a longer time as there are generally less people posting, so it all kinda equals out in the end. I’ve done some posting different days of the week (I typically upload Sundays, but I’ve tried a Wednesday, and misc. days for Holiday Specials) and typically my comic performs the same regardless of the day. Time of day also mostly doesn’t matter, because there are readers all over the globe, and so no matter when you upload, it’ll be a good time for some people and bad for others.

For extra tips… just try to find a schedule that works for you, and have fun! Can’t wait to see your comic~

Ways to draw readers be you? Post often but within your means and be a good person!

Good ways to start the first chapter depend on what you're trying to draw/write.

Best days and times of day appear to be in the evening personally. When everyone's out of work/school for the most part.

And for extra tips? Keep workin' hard! If you have anything uploaded, message me on here please~
