Help me pick a cover font?

Helloo,
I've been scavenging the internet for a decent cover font for my upcoming comic. But I figured, I need more than a second opinion to pick an aesthetically pleasing look. Something that works for the comic, as well as banners and promos. I don't have much experience with comics, or typography or anything like this just yet, so I'd love other opinions!

The image behind may possibly become my cover. It will be in full colour (dark background and shadows) with the font in a possibly lighter colour. The story itself has some very dark moments, and psychological issues, but also has many lighthearted scenes. But at the end of the day, it's a just a fantasy story incorporating fairytales and folklore. So I originally wanted an ornate text, but I've been thinking that something more simple will work just as well.

Anywho, what font do you like best? And possibly why? Feel free to say more than one. Are there any fonts that are nice but I should adjust placement wise?

Number 11 I think, the other ones blended in with the background too much. Unless you choose one of the others, make it a lot bigger and maybe put something in between the font and the image so that it stands out. Yep. My number 2 choose is 9 and 3rd choose number 5, but yeh, something in between there I think. Hope I've been of any help

I'm leaning toward 6 or 10. 10 has more of a horror feel to it so I guess it would depend on the tone of the story. I think I'd nix 1, 4, 12 just for readability's sake. I agree with Yvette that I'd probably go bigger with the size and consider the contrast of the font color to background art. If you opt for one of the ornate fonts, be careful of the detail in the background art clothing and all the curly cues of font battling each other. Good luck with the launch!

Hmmm, at first glance I prefer 5 and 10. However, I can recognize all these fonts! O.O

I recommend, especially for front cover titles and the name of the comic that may/could be used as the comics logo, is to create your own text. It adds more of that professional personal touch. For people that can spot fonts from a mile away, it may come across as an unimportant last minute quick decision rather than the painstaking design choice that it is.

I totally agree with you that typography is a challenge. To make it easier, what you can do is, choose your favorite font from the list and then just tweak the letters a bit in illustrator or photoshop (tilt/skew letters, add a bend or bulge, add some unique flares). You can also add elements behind the text to make is more significant to the comic. Maybe your comic has a special magic sigil or a character with a tattoo design that could be watermarked over or behind the text, or an motif object that you can work into it.

Make it your own and make it special.

I see a lot of people going for 11, which is a great font. But I kinda like 9. I can't explain it but it looks a regular normal font but with a subtle feel of horror because of the faded edges, which would work if you're doing a dark comic with slight happier moments.

@yvettegustafsson Thanks for the input! The actual title will have a little bit of a border. Something like the gold embossing, or foil stamping you find on those pretty old books.

@Spinester Thanks for taking the time to look at them! It's not too horrific, only towards the end does the horror really come. Good ol' climax and disequilibrium. I don't have much experience with design, but I will definitely be making the fonts much bigger. Why have it be a title if I don't?

@CyndiFoster Ahh, I'm a fan of 5 too x3. I've been caught red handed, I spend far too long on DA Fonts. I've actually started dabbling in possible making my own dialogue fonts. And while I have a long way to go, I will most likely look at what fonts received the most positive feedback based on this and create something more personal and relative to the actual story. Unfortunately, I have very little experience with Illustrator, since I don't use that or photoshop... often, if at all. It seems I should spend a little more time scavenging for tutorials. I have been thinking about designing a sigil to go behind the text, that's what I really have in mind. And actually, markings and sigils are a major element of this story!

@aspiderjonny I know what you mean. I will most likely be adding some deteriorated elements to the final thing. Just to suggest that something is not quite right.

I know that fonts will always have their place, but for the main art for the page why not draw something new instead of choosing a font. It is a lot of effort to do that, but I feel like you will end up with something that better suits your work if is drawn by you. If you have trouble with topography maybe just use one of these as a starting point and expand upon/ simplify it.
