hey guys!
i know some of you use blender which i find infinitely cool
id really like to try doing some small low-poly projects but ive never done 3d modeling before (is that even the term?)
aaand i could really use some help!
easy to understand tutorials which arent like 5 hours long would be SO useful. again, im not really looking to get to know the whole interface, just make small models (probably mostly character work)

If your goal is making characters, I strongly suggest you start by making simple objects. That kind of simple work will lay the ground work for the more complex work of building characters- and no matter how simple you want them, character work is a more advanced skill.

I use maya, not blender, but I imagine the work flow would be similar. Just start small and work your way up! Youtube beginner tutorials are always an excellent place to start. I hope what others have linked/will link helps you. ^^

I'd advise that if you're getting into blender to go with the 2.8 beta.

The changes are substantial enough that If you start with the current official version you might get whiplash when 2.8 rolls out.

I use blender for mostly sculpting so I'm afraid I might not have the best advice, but I'll peruse my bookmarks and get back to this post with an edit of resources that have helped me out.

this is more so help for after your model has been completed and you want the character to move

after you finished your character, they look great, (i forget what keys were to merge the model, but i advise you to merge the model on completion) export it to an OBJ file and go onto Mixamo.com, this place will do the basics of the most difficult thing when it comes to 3D modeling...

that is rigging the model, its rather irritating cause if you dont do it right, you'll have really wonky animation or stretching. also dont worry about the colours or inverted mesh when loading it, you can fix that after you redownload the rigged model

after this you can go in and fix it up if needed to but the site does do a pretty good job (sadly i donno any cheat ways to rig faces XD (cries))

So, if I wanted to take a model like this (dae file):

and turn it into lineart like this:

How do I do that in Blender? I haven't really found any clear directions or tutorial videos. Sketchup Make makes OK lineart but its super duper low rez and I can't really use it directly in the comic. Or can I just take the DAE file into Blender, not make any modifications and export it into a file for Clip Studio? Then in Clip Studio somehow make it lineart?

In Blender you have to do a "toon render." There's different styles of Toon render, (and I think in Blender it's called "freestyle" like you can do a lot of tweaks to it but here's a tutorial to get you started.

Freestyle, honestly, can be kind of complicated (this guy I think made it a little bit too complicated) but if you just look up videos with freestyle and toon render in the tags you'll find something hopefully.

a heads up if you were still interested in this, Blender has recently updated, it'll take a minute to get re situated but it is more beginner friendly, well in my opinion

as for making a 3d model a lineart, there is a feature in Clip studio Paint EX that does it automatically but other than that, i only know just tracing it or photoshopping it
