Hey guys, need some more opinions on this art study I did

Hey there, hope y'all are dandy.
I got this piece, a little value study I did, and I'd like to know what you guys think?

Is it clear? Do the values read alright?
What type of emotion are you getting from it?(if any)
Is there anything that you think could make it better?
Stuff like that.

You can also add whatever else you'd like to say, I'd appreciate the feedback regardless.
Anywho, here's the study(I only spent an hour on this so I apologise if it looks all mushy and unfinished):

I think the overall mood is excellent. The strong contrast gives the piece a very dramatic quality. To accomplish this in an hour is quite impressive, in my opinion.

In terms of improvements, I feel the candle and character don't have enough separation—they're hard to distinguish from each other. This aspect could use some refinement. Also, since there's a lot of gradient work and blending in the image, the candle flame's edges come across as too sharp—it reads more as a solid form than actual fire.

I broadly agree with @wolflu66 . The rendering of the face is just fine, the candle is a bit of an afterthought. I think the composition is weak, and that choosing a different candle lighting angle could have yielded a more beautiful result.

Still, very good work for an hour's practice!
