I fled Wattpad a month after I joined Tapas, so you are not alone. In fact there are a lot of Wattpad Refugees here too!

The 15,000 character limit was definitely an adjustment for me since I had to split up my Chapters a lot. Yet it also helped keep my story flowing. Also Tapas does not have as many features that Wattpad has for uploading a story (like adding images is super not intuitive). Despite that however, I really like the people here on Tapas and I also like how things are laid out with my story here more so than Wattpad which was...messy.

I think you're in much better hands here.

Hi! I'm in the exact same situation as you. Except that I had the incredible timing of joining WP one week ago, so I'd barely started before everything ended up on fire. From what I've seen of Tapas so far, I like the way the site is configured much better -- it's noticeably less chaotic. Definitely looking forward to learning more about it.

I am excited to see the downfall of Wattpad

It amuses me greatly their solution to the ongoing problems on the Wattpad forums wasn't to try and fix them, but close them completely and take away the only outlet smaller writers had to get noticed. They have basically killed any hope of a new writer getting traction over there unless they're very lucky. And to not even give people a warning so they can make arrangements to discuss things with friends elsewhere was kinda a bad move. They just locked 'em up and threw away the key.

I can't offer much insight to tapas since I'm still trying to figure it all out myself LOL I'm still unsure if I'll move over here full time from Wattpad because I do have a MUCH bigger fanbase on Wattpad vs here, and I'm just not entirely sure if I'll ever muster the energy to do what I need to do to get a fan base on here. Not to mention I've been struggling to write in general so that alone could take me off all writing sites. But in my short time here everyone has been welcoming so I'd say just dip your feet in the water and see how you like it. I also managed to get both books that I've posted here featured so that was awesome! Though I will say I hate the character limit and not sure if that will ever change for me I just might at least get better at figuring out where to break up my chapters to work within their bite sized limits. Posting chapter parts dailly (I'm not sure I'll ever get into calling them episodes LOL) helped boost me quite a bit, it dropped a lot when I cut down to twice a week because I didn't want to burn off all the chapters too fast while I try to psych myself up to break up the chapters to a sequel for one of the books i have up LOL I needed all the time I could buy myself for that

Just poetry on there for me, yet I'll have to back everything up.
I think I'll move the novels I started onto here and maybe try flogging the odd one on Amazon.
WP blew it a little for me years ago with the big publishing business having their staff set up accounts, all just one big popularity contest the little man wasn't really invited to.

And I also kind of gave up on the effort of Wattpad around a year ago. I don't think it was as bad back then. But I wanted to restrict my story to just two platforms. Had to drop WP as a result.

I feel ya. I used the forums on WP for a social outlet during quarantine but I grew quickly tired of read 4 reads. I don't mind reading other people's stuff but when you have to negotiate/barter to get reads and only to get largely negative comments as "feedback" I started to get tired of it.

as someone who joined wattpad in 2013 i can def say , wattpad changed A LOT and i must say , for the worse.
a " Sinking Ship" is really the perfecr term for it. in my opinion tapas is better and has a great community. I hope you'll like it here

They didn't give any heads up and I think that's what bothers me the most. Since I've been on a bit of a Wattpad Hiatus while I figure some stuff out, I hadn't been on the forums in a while there except to occasionally lurk. But to just shut them down and not give anyone time to set up ways to keep in touch with the communities they created there is just horrible. There were definitely a lot of problems there that needed to be addressed on the forums, but I don't think this was the right way to handle it. It's such a shame because I really owe everything I have on Wattpad to the people I met on the forums. I don't think I'd have readers currently, let alone still be hanging onto my Wattpad account while I sort through some things, if it weren't for the wonderful people I met there. And if I can get used to the lack of dark mode here I'm hoping that I could maybe have the same result on Tapas because community is everything.

Wow, I heard that Wattpad forums had drama, but damn! Anyway, welcome to the Tapas Forum.

I never once felt welcomed in Wattpad. I first attempted A03 and Wattpad and only found success in A03 (by success, I mean I had one commenting reader and a few thumbs up). I started getting interested in the idea of drawing a comic as well, which made me stumbled upon Tapas. When I realized they had novels I wanted to pee because that's what I'd been working on and trying so hard for the whole time.
Anyway, I ended up posting the beginning of my novel here and have felt nothing but joy as I've continued to update. The forums are awesome (we have our moments of debate... times when people get frustrated) but for the most part everyone is supportive and friendly.
My readers are invested and keep me motivated. Even one or two comments kept me going, and now my novel has plenty of subs.
I really do appreciate tapas. I do hope it expands and focuses on it's novel section as it does its comics (one day). But for now, I'm satisfied.
