Well, I'll leave it to you to decide whether this counts or not, but my story has some historical aspects too, because my leads are also immortal fantasy creatures.
Two of the MCs (not saying who because spoilers) were born in the 40s, so even in modern day the wife is an oddly quintessential old fashioned housewife. I want to (and will be going) more into detail about their pasts since there weren't a lot of rights for "their kind" when this couple was growing up, but not much about it has been shared yet, since their identities haven't been revealed.
The mc is an immortal cameroonian and welsh mermaid, but because of the way her species has been treated throughout history they rarely live past their 60s (the timeline of some central characters goes back to the mid 20th century)
History plays a significant role in this story because of it's effect on government. A secret government organization has been formed for the care of fantasy creatures, aka "phants" that does not follow the laws of the standard U.S. government, under the justification that "the constitution wasn't written for phants."
