Horror! Get Your Horror! Comics and Novels!

Hey friends. Do you like horror? You do? Well I sure do too. So I figured I'd create a horror thread where we can all share our own works of terror or others and we can talk about what we like about them.
I'll start with my own. The current series I'm working on, FRONTIER, takes place in a partially destroyed fantasy world and focuses on a group of adventurers and their expeditions into the unknown terrains of the titular Frontier. I post chapters every week along with illustrated chapter covers and often other artwork to either explain things about the world, comic-like panels to illustrate dramatic moments or maps to show the current locations of the characters.
Frontier has strong horror roots, specifically cosmic horror roots as most of the chapters either pit the main characters up against terrifying threats or I continuously try to illustrate how large and uncaring the world they inhabit is. However, I also like to mix genres, so that it isn't all just doom and gloom. There are multiple chapters where we get to just see the characters hang around and talk about their lives and even a few epic moments where we see them do amazing things. But you always know that no matter how good or competent they are it can all go south in an instant. And it does...often. As you read on you get the feeling that these characters are always one mistake away from a sudden and violent death.

I just started a new series and a mix of traditional gothic horror with a few unique twists.

It’s set in 1920’s New Orleans and features the Spiritual churches, an offshoot of American Spiritualism. So some seances and other spooks

Such a dope cover omg. The synopsis has me intrigued and the short story format I think always works best for this sort of cosmic horror. Also, drawing from Caribbean folklore is extremely exciting! I don't think I've ever read a story using that as a basis.

I really like the idea of a start juxtaposition between style and genre. I remember my animated thesis film was similar in the sense that it was very cartoony and brightly colored but dealing with heavy subject matter. I am curious though, as someone who used to do comics and stopped because of the work load, how do you have the energy to have both a novel and a webcomic at the same time. You are an absolute trooper and I salute you!

pretty cool thread, I'll definitely check some of those out!

as for my own horror/mystery, I'm uploading a short story weekly, the ghoul

it is more thematically mystery and visualy horror, admittedly, it gets quite graphic every once in a while

I appreciate your words! To be honest, its because I want my novel to get the audience it deserves. It's easy to attract people through art alone, but I get my catharsis from writing my feelings out the most. I worked hard to be able to do my own art, so I want it to tingle your curiosity, but let the world of my making unveil itself on its own in your head.

It's why I also do casual updates, it lets me work in my own pace so I won't go nuts haha.

Your project sounds awesome with the Horror x Fantasy themes. That's a really interesting concept to see a world that was already fantasy be transformed into something creepy. And yea just as you said, always good when the heroes could find some moments between the journey to be themselves.

It's always fun to see other artist's interpretations of similar genres too! Keep up the hard work!

Mines is a Survival Horror x Superhero x Dark Fantasy
It's also about adjusting to drastic change. After a mysterious Hum is heard, a select few gain unusual abilities but also become carriers of a 'virus' that instantly transform other humans (mammals) into zombie-like monsters. The heroes unwillingly infect the population and these monsters continue to feed and infect everything. The story follows 3 guys (for now) who each can control a state of matter: Liquid, Solid & Gas.
In typical horror fashion, the rest of the cast and the world rules reveal themselves as the story progresses, pitting the viewer into an untrusting landscape. It started out as a video game idea at first.

And... I'm a huge fan of cosmic horror, Ancient Gods and strange celestial beings and the vast unknown so I might be spoiling things here if I go further. XD
