How big is your team — and how do you divide responsibilities?

I do both the script and the art for my webcomic (it's the first time I tackle a project on my own), but from episode 06 forward I've hired an artist friend as my flatter because I needed some extra help and that part of the coloring process is always a bit overwhelming for me. Going solo is fun because you make all the big decisions... but tbh I also miss nerding over the characters and story with someone else :_)

I do promotion on Instagram, Tumblr, BlueSky and lately also on TikTok. I try to post previews for the new pages, some character lore and I'm also working on small side comics and funny memes that might pick future readers's interest :_)

We're also working on a webcomic, currently in the format of short Friday strips, and finalizing the bible of our universe. I'm the entire team, though I dunno how efficient that team is, lol. All of the writing, cover work, illustrations, promo graphics, ads, etc. are done by me. I'm not the best at advertising because I hate it, but I do most of it on bluesky and sometimes insta. It can be a lot of work when I'm working on multiple stories, but I enjoy doing things the way I want to even knowing there's people who could do certain things better. That's probably why I don't do collabs. I like to work on my own stories at my own pace and in my own way.

Solo, so all responsibilities on me -
Yea mostly post on IG, and yea always open to learning, trying new ways of promoting on social media TBH
mostly art and episode previews and sometimes behind the scenes, most of my community building would include being part of a discord community with other artists and joining them on art collabs they post to social media.

For promos usually do things like animated slideshows teasers of the episodes
Still trying to balance RL and consistent schedule but usually aim for roughly a month per episode.

Much respect for handling all of that solo — that’s a huge workload, especially juggling multiple stories. Totally get what you mean about advertising — it’s not everyone’s favorite part, but it’s kind of essential nowadays. I actually enjoy experimenting with promotion — it feels like a whole cool world of possibilities to explore.

By the way, how do you feel about Bluesky as a promo platform? Do you feel like it helps you find your audience, or is it still too niche?

It's just me! I'm kinda doing this as a personal challenge because I got sick of having all these stories and characters in my head and not really having it anywhere physical

I try to plan the arc, then write something of a cohesive scene in full before I publish. However this point i prioritize the process and consistency of progression over perfection as that has caused me to spiral, give up, and lose interest on projects in the past. Though I do try to get a friend to read it over for typos before I publish.

Also curious — what’s your take on TikTok as a promo tool? Have you tried it, or thought about using it? I’m wondering what the best way to approach it is for promoting webcomics.

Right now we’re mostly experimenting with Instagram, and for Threads we came up with a kind of “crew log” format written from the team’s perspective — it’s a fun idea, but we’re still just starting out there and the follower count is pretty small so far.

I presume the majority of creators here are the only ones making the webcomic.

I'm one of them. I must admit it can be tiring to try and do everything yourself, but I also like having full control. It means I don't have to worry about someone else not meeting their responsibilities.
