Lots of people in this world need help...but what can you do for them?
I've always felt very limited when I attempt to answer this question...the cliche'd answer is "at least you can be a good friend" but I don't think I can even do that.
I used to consider myself at least a "listener", but I'm slowly starting to realize that (a) I'm not even very good at listening (^^; ), and (b) despite what people say, they need more than that. They need someone who will react to them and talk them through their troubles, or at least say "uh huh" at the right times.
Unfortunately, I have a knack for understanding people and putting myself in their shoes regardless. Which leaves me feeling sort of powerless. What's the use of knowing what people need if you can't give it to them, or even find someone else who can?
At the moment, all I know I can do is be as generous as possible with the things that I have. That's part of why I dream of being rich and successful: the more things you have, the more you can give to other people. And it's so much easier to brighten a day or change a life when you have those resources.
The rich person who throws money at every problem and can't be bothered to give any of themselves is a common narrative trope (especially at Christmastime...), and I'd hope I wouldn't look like that. But even if I did...oh well. People can think what they want. I just don't have a whole lot of 'self' to give, but I'd like to do some good all the same.
Just adult things to think about. ^^ So how do you want to help the world?
