If you dont know, I generally recommend art college courses. I attended artschool at uni, Although, in the process I discovered a career in programming was better industry occupation for me than a designer.
However, I do think prospective students should be aware that artschool (or any academic curriculum) isn't just going to make you better at your craft or necessarily make you a more successful artist if you don't build outside of the curriculum. I recommend self-teaching + art program. Not picking either one. Which is a tall order... but so is a career in art.
Art school really helps in addressing blindspots and complimenting your personal artistic interest. Keyword COMPLIMENT. It doesn't replace your intuition, practice habits, interests, or creative experiences. It basically creates an environment that teaches you to incorporate them in a collaborative world (not so much in the first few courses as they are mostly fundamental 101). To be fair, not every great artist went to art school per say, although they all have a surprisingly vast academic toolset than we'd like to admit.
If you feel like you are behind, I have been posting "LCT triweekly things to know" feeds on the forums to help with closing that academic gap for those who are in a knowledge gap or just trying to keep up with the art world. It's not quite as active as debate threads, and sharing threads, but I think there are a few readers here who find it helpful.
The best thing to do is just dive learn what you can at your own pace and figure out what you need personally.
