How did you get your first 100 followers? Any tips?

Hey everyone!
I'm still pretty new around here and was wondering — how did you guys get your first 100 followers?
Do you have any tips or things you did to promote your novel/comic and get more readers?
I'd love to hear your stories and any advice you wanna share!

1) replying to promotion threads
2) engaging other comics and novels (like, sub, comment... depends)
3) join existing contests
4) Facebook, reddit, Instagram, YouTube, bitchute
5) irl word of mouth (don't go about like a street preacher or political canvasser though. Only when it comes up in a normal conversation)

I'm similar to kyupol. At first, I asked relatives and friends for help, but obviously I overestimated my popularity XD.

Promoting on forums and seeking sub 4 sub.Be careful not to publish too many repetitive posts promoting your work within a short period of time, as this can annoy people and cause a negative effect.

Promoting on social media sites.
Posting on illustration sharing platforms, such as DA or pixiv.

Alright, I will come forward with my first tips. My suggestions to you are:
1) be incredibly opportunistic. Take advantage of everything and everything you feel capable of doing (leave very little stones unturned)
2) You have to be prepared to fight your way to the top.

Kyupol and wolflu66 are right.

Post in Promotions but don't be obnoxious. If it says novel, and you have a comic, don't post and vice versa.
If you are talking outside of Promotions, don't promote unless its allowed in that thread.
the fastest way to get people to ignore you is too be annoying and then people will start ignoring you.

Talk to other creators, the discord is great and the staff DO scroll through there to see what we're talking about and will sometimes check out newer stories if they see the creators engaging.

be patient. It honestly takes time. I uploaded every day for over a month and only just hit 100, likely because I could upload everyday and stay in the "just updated" category. If you can't, realize it may take longer.

Social media is great, but again, its good to connect with other creators. Boost their work to your followers and they'll usually do the same. Art trades are also great as it helps show that you, again, are engaging

To be honest, I'm not very good at speaking in public chat groups like DC XD.

Back then, I had to gather a lot of courage even to post on this forum. But now I've gotten used to it.

I didn't use the forums for the first 100 followers, although I wish I had. It took me ~9 months to reach the first 100, but growth has been faster afterwards.

• Promotion on other platforms. I used Reddit, mostly.
• Consistent regular updates. I've never missed an update here. I have about a 1-year buffer, which helps.
• Quality product with a clear plan to start with (I uploaded the first chapter entirely in the beginning, so I had enough story to engage with while the comic was still 'new').
• Low expectations so I wasn't discouraged in the first few months. I anticipated 1 sub/wk average starting out and some of those early months I didn't do much better than that!
