I think I've joined since a week a go. How long does it take to gain subscribers and dedicated readership on average? Is it because my comic is only at 10 pages so far? Or my art is distracting?

Or does it just take time to gain subscribers...

Thanks for answering

probably a week in, just work on the comic. people like to binge, so once you've established probably 10 episodes or so, then start to worry...

It takes time. No matter what you do it will take time. You could be the best artist in the world and it would still probably take months. Just promote your stuff wherever whenever

There's a ton of factors that go into the rate of gaining subscribers (art style, over saturated genres/themes, posting times, upload frequency to name a few) so I don't think anyone can give a single definite answer here. The important thing is to promote yourself, and be patient!
A week is still very early, so try not to stress over the numbers and just focus on making your best content and enjoying yourself! Goodluck with your comic ^^

I touched on a few things to consider to improve reader engagement and sub count here21 though that might be helpful?

Just keep caring for your work. Engage with your readers and do all kinds of promotions...

Then it will come automatically in time

I started really gaining subs about 1 month into posting. I was posting a lot, though, so if you're doing weekly posts, maybe 1.5-2 months

It'll be different for everyone. There is no one right answer. In the first month I only had 12 but it has grown since then.

YES. comics that explode instantly are very rare

And experiment on finding the ideal times to update. It took me a while to find it but when I did, I sticked to it so readers know when to expect each update

Thanks. I see people with more subscriptions than me who don't have a story posted yet. Makes me wonder if it's my art thats making people not interested :frowning:

Ok my rate is 1 page a week I think. It was 2.5 but I want to spend more time on my art and skills to make my comic more appealing at least that's what I hope.

Thanks for sharing!

Yes. Also this.
But you need to find your readers.
Post on Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and so on..
Where are the readers that like your stuff?

It will take time... And some broken eggs to make the omelet.

There is also some in here that will make cross-promotion. You link to them in the end of an episode and they link to you.

Also, engage in here. Make some friends, take and give advice. It all helps to raise a name and gain followers.

Don’t be shy. But don’t be spam either

Good luck

They might have a name. They might have a follower base from previous projects. And now their fans are just waiting the next great thing for them...

Also? Do you have a link for your series? It will be smart to share with the people that you are communicating with right now.
Also try to post some of your art that you wish feedback for

Ok thank you for good feedback and advice and taking your time to write back... My comic is called Virtue vs Sin or VS.

Personally the thumbnail for the comic is fugly but soon I will try to make a better thumbnail.

Oh and about social media to promote my comic - I actually don't have any social media other than this forum on Tapas. Tapas is my only platform at the moment. I will try to reach out as much as I can it will be hard though cause for personal reasons can't use social media.

Might be worth reviving this thread if you're open to feedback before you rework your thumbnail ^^ It was pretty helpful back when it was active!

If you can't use other social medias I think cross promotion or collab events would be the best for you to try ^^ You can usually find such here in the forums. Making friends with other creators whether via the forums here or commenting on peoples updates you enjoy on tapas/being active in the community would be good too!

[EDIT] by collab events I don't mean a whole collab comic. But the ones for holidays and such that people organize like this valentines one I got to be apart of:

Most people who explode have followers from other social media platforms or have done other webcomics before. Because they instantly have large numbers, the algorithms on Tapas and Webtoons then spotlight and feature them, giving them even more visibility and subs. It becomes a virtuous cycle.

Divide the number of views you have by the number of pages you've posted and then divide the number again by your subs. This will let you know your ratio. Often comics with large subs don't have much better of a ratio than those with very few subs. They just have more visibility and better marketing.

My suggestion for you is don't post the whole chapter. Post only 1 page.

It takes time! post on the forums a lot, and follow other people, a lot of times they'll read your comic and follow you back b/c artists like to support other artists. Always include your link in your forum posts if you can, it drives a little more traffic to your comic. And if you have means of promoting your comic via social media, then go for it!
