How do people find you on webtoon?

Hi!

I feel like I constantly see people having more views and subs at webtoons then on tapastic. . And I feel like there is something I am missing about that website because for me I get almost no views there.... I honestly don't understand how people find your comic there. Sure they have a "newly updated section" but I feel like no one finds there way to my comic on webtoons.

Do you guys have any tips or tricks I should know about?

I just joined Webtoons this month and I'm not totally sure how their sort options work. Like they have:
Date - which are the newest comics
Rating - which is the star rating
and Popular - which is ????

I mean I guess the Popular section is done with an algorithm the same way the one here is, but here I can sense when I'm gonna be in the popular section that day but on Line I don't really have a hang of what's making the comic rise on that list?

I somehow got into their "weekly roundup" on the front page of the site, but I'm not sure if that's selected by staff or another algorithm. There's also the recommended titles at the top of the "Discover" section... which are another mystery to me.

All that being said, Your comic is one of the top results when I search the word "magic" but is kind of buried when I try to find it be just scrolling through the fantasy section. I think you might be in a genre that is a bit more competitive on that site, since it seems like there's a TON of really high rated comics for the first pages in both Popularity and Rating. Which there's really not much of a solution for, since your comic is a fantasy comic...

tldr: I have no idea. Sorry I don't have more insight.

I'm totally baffled by this too! I check back now and then and see I got more subs, but I have no idea how they're finding me.

I'm also wondering if certain genres make your comic more easy to find. I put mine under "sci-fi" for lack of a better genre (it's mystery genre here) but when I try to find the sci-fi section on Webtoons I have to dig a little further than if I classified it as, say, a drama. Which it technically could be, too, since that's such a broad term :u

The popular section works base on views and like on your latest update, I believe. My comic is always lingering around 2nd and 3rd place on the top 5 Fantasy genre of discovery section, whenever I update a new episode, it will be pushed off the list, to later crawl back up after my readers have gotten the chance to read, like and leave comment!

But the weekly popular, recommended titles are truly a mystery to me... till this day I still have no idea how it works sadly. I actually got lucky and popped up on the weekly popular once before along with the top 5 in all genres, but as soon as I update a new episode, I got boosted off the list LMFAO

People browse Discovery section a lot. I know I do when I'm bored. Other way people would find your series is by seeing it pops up on the top 5 list... which like @Kaykedrawsthings said, your series being Fantasy has a lot of competition so it's pretty hard to get on there. I know mine is also in Fantasy section haha The top 5 by rating is also a big competition over there, with the 4th spot series being 9.30 with over 17k subs. My series only just got on that list recently with a rating of 9.15... TBH don't rely too much on that top 5 board it barely ever change LMFAO

@Michelle Oh man I feel you! Sadly they put Scifi, Historical, Action, Thriller, Horror and Romance ALL TOGETHER I feel like it's even more of a competition over there... sweats I guess there is not many comic under those specific category so they just sum them all up.

Thank you all so much for replaying and telling me what you know. Great information. I am thinking about moving my comic to comedy. Because that is after all the focus of it. It is more comedy then fantasy I think.... I wonder if that would help. What do you think?
I feel like on webtoons comics that are getting views already gets even more. It is hard to be new there and it is all about luck....

You can try that and test out the water! It never hurt : D Maybe just keep on updating regularly and advertise your Webtoon link around too, that may also help!

That actually happens everywhere, sadly! Even on Tapastic. A comic that pops up on popular list will be more likely to get the right attention, people read, subs, like, comment, boost the comic bk up on the popular list, rinse and repeat. It's like the snowball effect!

When I first joined, I kept seeing my comic LostMyth at the top 5 features. Because it was fairly new and had a rating of 10, after that, I managed to get lots of subs and views until I got out of the 5 featured of my genre(fantasy). The website feels a bit complicated to me.

@69Erocento @acealmansoori you seem to have some experience with Webtoon

i just got some questions if you don't mind me asking:
1. is there a certain type/s of work/genre/taste that takes the whole show there or is it a diverse platform like here?
2. by publishing on Webtoon, do you know if 'am dealing with a totally new population of readers or not?, i mean like.. Webtoon-dwelling readers? i really don't see the point of publishing there too if large percentage of readers are here as well

your answers will help me decide to take Enkido there or not, because 'am not quite sure if the mood/type of my comic would be welcomed there as it's here on Tapastic, and last thing i want for my comic is to be buried in oblivion

I totally wonder about this as well because I rarely promote it on social media yet it has double the subs than my tapastic mirror (that I constantly promote) in less the time that it took to get all of my tapastic subs. I don't know if it's because I put mine in the drama genre. (though it's not on the popular list)

and here's what i came up with from people's opinions:

the reader-creator relationship is almost absent, and for me that's a deal-breaker
comic's there are considered consuming products more than something entertaining
you can get paid well, especially if your work is Webtoon-exclusive
the community is toxic and the environment is brutally competative, which is another deal-breaker for me.. although 'am super confident of my work
plus other technical problems regarding commenting and adjusting your comic to max 800px width

i think Tapastic is a better place for me as a creator who cares about interacting with the community as much as working on my own comic (also i think community is all about that), and since i've been here (less than 3 weeks now) i loved all people 've met so far
and i think Tapastic will be unquestionably #1 if its staff succeeded in the future to make it more easy and effective for creators to get some bucks in their pockets

idk, your thoughts?

The genres there are similar, a bit more here. But the readers taste are slightly towards fantasy and drama, than slice of life.
From my own experience I found that webtoon readers are a bit more, extreme xD but at the same time really nice. As in extreme, some prefer their comics to be more suitable for mobiles(some might unsub too because of it), since most use it that way. Once I got a comment saying that they hate the layout, and another that the text is a bit too small to read.

I find tapastic to be more active in both the site and the forums, but webtoon to have more readers. I have way more subs on webtoon than tapastic. You won't lose much by posting there to be honest.

I hope this clears up a bit. I didn't get into the website as a whole, beside posting I barely read comic there. Also, there is no notification option, I have to check each page for comments to reply. ( if there is an option I apologize)

I think webtoon is partnering up with Patreon so expect to get paid, or something of sort.

The thing is, there isn't much exposure to your comic, it's hard to figure out on how to promote it, either bring in your crowd or hope you get noticed as early as possible. once you hit an 8 rating it gets harder to get noticed.

1 - There is all sort of popular series for all sort of genres that suits all sort of taste. As far as I know as long your comic has great plot, good art, and update consistently, you are guaranteed a large amount of reader over there.
2 - IMO, not exactly totally new.I know a lot of readers on webtoon dwell in both webtoon and tapastic, they follow their favorite series from Tap to Webtoon and bk. But according to the traffic, Webtoon definitely dominate over Tapastic with 2 times? 3 times the traffic? I can't remember someone posted the statistic on the forum but I don't remember in what topic. So definitely when you post your comic on there, you are bound to get a lot more different audience.

1 - While it is hard to maintain a good communication going seeing how you barely get notified whenever someone comments on your work, this is not at all impossible. I reply to every comments I get, and slowly I come to learn who is my regular readers, who is new, and who sticks around with me from the very beginning. It's not completely absent if you put more effort into it.

4 - If you read the later post, seem like everyone is claiming the community gets a lot better. As far as I know I have never ran into any drama issue or any rude reader that can leave a comment without being downvoted into oblivion.

5 - Comments is the only problem I found tbh but I stop being bothered by it and had since gotten used to it. The site does have a smaller resolution picture than Tap (940px) admittedly and no schedule option. But well you do have a save draft option which you can then go into your dashboard to upload the episode when the time comes so it's not that bad.

Yeah that's me too, on Tapastic I just hit 150 and it's been almost a year. Webtoons it's at 115 and it's only been one month. So strange.

I'm pretty sure its the newly updated section. In the discover tab, when you click on a genre, it will auto sort by date. So if you've just updated your comic, a lot of people will see it. And since LINE doesn't seem to have frequent updated comics, your comic will stay up on the first page for about an entire day, which is how people find it

Line seems to have a lot more readers than creators, so comics will be subbed to a lot due to demand in comics. However, I feel like Tapas was made for creators rather than readers, so the audience will be smaller than on LINE.

Because the majority of the population there are readers, LINE optimizes for mobile reading.... That means updating by chapter is favored a lot more than updating by page. And because of this, the discover section usually isn't flooded with updated comics.

I know it is hard to get that many views I've been posting for a month already and we only have 50 suscribers, and I get a bit jelous because some got already 1k and is just one chapter with a poorly character design. I'm not saying my webtoon is that big of a deal but I will love a little more recognition
