How do you end a comic series?

My series should be ending within the next few months. It's about four fruit ninjas who protect New York from their foes (generic plot, I know) and I'm trying close it out with a book end but also leave the interpretation of the ending up to the audience. I have an idea of how it's going to end, but I don't want it to be another cookie cutter, "the sun shines on a bright new day as the heroes have restored peace". Is anybody willing to help me out?

Some people end their comic or story to same it began. Some people end a story on a cliff hanger. One very famous TV show ended their series finale cough The Sopranos cough by cutting it off in the middle of someone's sentence. Then a black out and credit rolled. People would furious with that ending. What I saying is end your story with no regrets. Once you have an ending stick to it.

Sure. when the time comes, i'm hoping there will at least be a little dialogue amongst readers on how they interpret the ending.

You just slap a big ol' THE END on the final panel in permanent marker.

Really, you end it by planning when to end it in advance and sticking to it.
