How do you even make friends in the art community!?

So for the longest time I’ve been wanting to create some new friendships, but I really don’t know how to! Specially, make friends who does art as well!

Is there anything that I should do? Any advice would be great

I’ve made a few friends on this forum actually.

That has led to being invited to Discord groups, so I’m in touch with other creators via there too.

I’m sure if you hang around and join in with threads and the occasional collabs and art trades that pop up now and then, you’ll meet some likeminded people.

Okay the reason why no one made any friends is because 1.) they don’t speak to other or are 2.) a complete donkey.

Don't hesitate to start some random topics too whether it's something more casual or about art/characters, etc. It's mostly art thread, but no harm in starting the small talk on other topics!

I try to stay consistent when it comes to commenting on peoples posts! I sometimes do fanart of their OC’s as well! I follow creators who are close to my age who I really like, and on discord I interact with others! However, nothing really goes anywhere.

There’s been one time where I made a friend, she was nice, but got cancelled a while ago…

Yep, I think the only times when people dislike me is when I’m acting out of character; which is completely understandable. Other than that; just do what you love: which is to draw and appreciate art and others will come join you! :3

Discord, Discord, DISCORD lol. You just find them naturally depending on your skillset. I also recommend finding out if your favorite writer/art YouTuber has a discord. I've found countless of collaborators that way.

"Just be yourself" is probably all you can do, though that doesn't getting friends is as easy as that makes it sound. Most people just aren't gonna stick. But if you 'roll the dice' enough times, chances are you'll bump into some like-minded people who really stick around eventually :]

Do you mean she "got cancelled" as in everyone started bashing her for something she did?

Yeah, we talked a few times and I felt like a friendship was happening. She gave me advice and even commented nice words on my YouTube video! but everything kind of died. I don't know if you know hopeless peaches? I guess you can say that we were more acquaintances than friends rather.

From what I heard she was in a scheme by this other youtuber, but then she came back, reached 100K and then took a break again.

Im trying to figure out the same thing myself since I’m new to the illustration and comic community.
What helped me connect with my first friends is to engage with other small/new creators whose works I enjoy on their social media. I also support their comics by reading, liking and commenting, and drawing fanarts of their characters. Just be genuine about it.
Collabs and art trades works too, but I’ve also had situation when we never speak to each other again after the collab because we never clicked. This is only natural.
I think the hardest part is going from having an interest in each other’s work to friendships. I only have a few of those. it requires you to put yourself out there so people know you personally and not just your work, which my neurodivergent-ass is bad at doing lol

I made some online friends by giving each other recommendations for learning material or general advice
or complimenting art and asking how they did that. I also made online friends by working together with people.

I have a group of 5-15 people I meet with regularly in the real world, they are all artists, illustrators, tattoo artists,
comic artists and live in and around my hometown. We did a 6 hours comic day and we had meetings in bars.
Maybe there is something like that where you live, I live on the countryside of germany, I thought there would
be nobody when I moved here and now I´m part of a growing group, the local newspaper is writing about us
and stuff

I think the main trick is to not be afraid to be more personal? If your communication looks promising, I mean, sometimes you just do not click with some people. But if it seems genuine, it would be ok to start talking about more personal stuff too.

Also; how do you make friends as an adult? Lol. I’ll try to do some of the things mentioned here since I have zero art friends. Except twitter, I’m scared of twitter.
