How do you get motivated to write when no one seems to like your story?

Hi!

Writing when not many people are reading your story is difficult, but I always try to remind myself that I'm writing for me. Also, I think that it's very easy to give up so you won't get hurt by the outcome. However it's more redeeming to keep on writing and see where it goes.

So, please don't give up on writing!

I have posted 7 (!) novels on Wattpad, on at least 3x per week schedule, added to ambassador’s reading lists, in 3 different genres over 2 years, while participating in the forum activities, book clubs and read4reads like it’s my job, and NEVER gotten noticed or achieved organic reads.

Wattpad is a black hole as far as I am concerned.

@domisotto Idk, but I had a good experience with wattpad. I posted my story in Jan, this year. With hiatus, some delays, and without promoting, my story has reached 140k + reads with good amount of feedbacks.

Good for you, try buying a lottery ticket. Your experience is absolutely not typical. The typical experience on Wattpad is posting to zero reads, no matter what the genre of the story is, how well or poorly it’s written, and how long.

My advice is: Keep trying. Maybe you didn't catch people's notice this time, that's okay. I've seen even pros make pieces or even entire works that were flops, even ones they thought were sure-fire hits.

When I make something and the reaction by people is "...eh.", first I cry it out, then I go and look for how I could improve. Read a bunch of books, watch videos, dig up tutorials, think about what I could do better, and then I try again. Usually something good comes along if I just keep giving it my all, listening to good advice from people with my best interests at heart and trying new things.

Cats and dogs love it when people read to them. So, if you have a pet, read your story to it. Sure, it's not the same as human audience but it's often enough for tricking your brain into continuing writing. Also, you can spot some flaws while reading you wouldn't have noticed otherwise.
Don't give up, some things - like finding readers - just need time.
